Okay, so there is a window on the nub of the highlighter, allowing you to see through to the words you are highlighting. They absolutely work as intended but there is definitely a learning curve. For 40 years I've been using "normal" highlighters, and retraining myself to look through the pen, at the words, takes a bit of getting used to. I actually enjoy using them now. Bonus: I get to make people say, "DUH!" when they see them and ask, "Why wasn't this invented a long time ago!". I deducted a star for the angle of the tip. I like to hold my highlighters at a bit more of an angle than this tip naturally sits at. Again, not a deal-breaker, but again, takes some getting used to. PROS: * Great colors. Bright and vibrant. * A window?!? Yahoo! CONS: * Price. Obviously these are a Japanese import and cheap versions abound. * The writing angle.

The best highlighters on the market

These are my favorite highlighters and I always have some on hand. I am a medical student and I use these to highlight and annotate in my textbooks. They were especially helpful when I was studying for my boards. I love that I am able to see through the highlighter while I'm using it. The doesn't bleed, but the color is still dark enough.

Honestly, probably the best highlighter I've ever used. The colors are light enough to not bleed through even thin paper but still bright enough to make what you want to highlight pop. The only downside? The lifespan of these things. I'm a heavy highlighter user, I need to highlight a lot of stuff. Unfortunately these highlighters didn't make it through 2 weeks before they were fading to nothing. Basically, they're great for occasional highlighting but drain quickly with constant use.

I bought these highlighters for the first time when I was living in Japan and my obsession with Japanese bunbougu was in it's budding stages. These are by far my favorite highlighters ever. They have a window in the tip, so you can see through to where you want to stop highlighting on the page. The heads are very firm, and don't give way and become soft like typical felt tipped highlighters. They also have a pointy tipped end on the back for variation in line width. Having a pocket clip on the cap is always a plus for me with writing instruments. They last for a very long time. I had the original set I had bought when I lived in Japan for over 7 years before finally buying this replacement set for myself. A great back to school gift or stocking stuffer!
