Use a 3.5mm-to-3.5mm cable. I bought a short 6 inch cable for less clutter and rest my phone next to the recorder. I record audio off YouTube, but you could use Spotify, Pandora or other sources. A lot of other answers are confusing because the recording you get isn't perfect. It records to blank tapes in mono. Yes it records phone to tape just fine. This will allow you to record the single audio channel from the cassette recorder to the computer's stereo with the same signal for both the left and right channels.
