The movie Tokyo Living Dead Idol was directed by Yûki Kumagai. Tokyo 27-ku's the hottest pop group around, but when singer Kamiya Miku (Nana Asakawa) gets bitten by a zombie, she goes from being on top of the charts to the top of the most wanted lists! With just 72 hours until the sizzling chanteuse becomes a shuffling zombie, Miku's only hope is finding a serum that might possibly cure her. Unfortunately, if Miku can't reach the antidote in time, she's going to transform from songbird to a dead bird singing in the middle of the night. Evading paparazzi and zealous fans is nothing compared to being pursued by teams of professional zombie hunters, the police and hordes of the living dead! Review: Surprisingly fun... - I was expecting very little; over the top zombie chopping mayhem with poorly constructed latex body parts flying around and "accidental" shots of girls in VERY short skirts, this is a common practice in low budget Japanese horror/zombie films, kind of like how low budget British or American horror films have gratuitous sex/nudity... What I got was some terrific, but not flawless, acting. The story and how it plays out is solid, way better than an excuse for undead chaos and bloody shenanigans. The action scenes with characters that hunt zombies professionally were very stylish and supremely entertaining... I would most definitely highly recommend this film to anyone looking for a laugh riot and rocking good time on movie night... Review: Has some fun moments, but not great - There are definitely some good in this movie. The action choreography can be engaging. Although the budget does not allow for gore outside of the beginning of the movie, the action still manages to be entertaining. What detracts from this is that the first few action scenes are filler. The second really awkward as the main protagonist starts a scene being chased by 3 zombie hunters, then the scene follows these hunters fighting a group of zombies while what started as a chase scene ends forgetting so. It does not help that these zombie hunters never appear in the film afterwards. Even if the action itself is good, the lacking payoff lessens its impact. There are also various comedic elements in this, and many of the jokes hit. However, with significant portions of the movie playing the concept straight without jokes, the film is not a comedy. The film has a bit of trouble finding its identity. I wish it could have either played the scenario straight and just be a cheesy action movie or just go full comedy and play with its concept. As is, if you like the comedy, you only get a taste of what could have been. If you like the action, you will be left wanting a bit more. That being said it balances out as an enjoyable watch, but there is a bit of getting there.

I tried to like this one...
I'm all for supporting little to no budget indie type movies. A reviewer online recommended this one and so I gave it a chance. It has an interesting storyline to it. Pop group on the rise when the lead singer gets bitten by a zombie. She has about 72 hours to find a cure before she turns and has to be killed. Without spoiling it, it's slow, boring and just doesn't have the right mix of acting or anything to have kept my interest. I fell asleep for 20 minutes or so but don't think I missed much. Eh, I'd say go back to the drawing board with this one...

Fine Concept, Poorly Made
No budget and movie is not a good time. I'll admit the main two actors are pretty enjoyable to watch and have a interesting little story. However the movie suffers from its small budget, and instead of trying to work around it they manage to go along with horribly put together action, bad make-up, and horrible secondary characters. Japanese films can be great, but don't be fooled by the competent cover art.

Disappointing
I really wanted to like this movie. It was a interesting idea and the acting was surprisingly quiet good for this type of movie. But in the end it just didn't really come together. Would have been so much better and more fun if it was goofy and over the top all throughout. Both in the story and action scenes. There was a decent bit of unnecessary scenes and plot. The scientist and his scenes took up time and were unnecessary other than to set up something at the end which wasn't all that great. The entire zombie hunters thing and their scenes (aside from the girl) as well were all unnecessary as well. The cure was also kind of boring, same with the kills. First zombie kill was that bloody over the top goofy CGI you would expect in a movie like this. Every kill after was nothing even remotely like that. There was sadly no slipcover or any art on the reverse side of the Blu ray cover. There were no features either other than the trailer. Not even a option for subtitles which had me worried, but the movie does have it just no option to turn them off if you wanted to.

Couldn't decide what it wanted to be
Not a good action movie, or gore movie, or comedy, or drama. Just a hodgepodge of mediocrity with less than mediocre action. And if your actors don't have the chops, don't put them in a lot of drama scenes in a zombie movie. Best parts: parkour zombies and her two faithful fans.
