Is this product easy to apply just into the crack without overlaying on to the smooth surface of the driveway? Is it black?

The product is fairly easy to apply if you use a trowel to force it into the crack. Be sure to rest the trimmed tip of the container on paper towel or newspaper because it oozes out of the tube when you use the caulking gun into which you have placed the canister. There will be some overlay. The color is more of a dark gray when it dries.
