Briggs & Stratton 692003 Push Rod Replacement for Models 494432 and 692003

Had an elderly neighbor break a push rod in his riding mower. Would of cost him a fortune to have it fixed. Found the oe Briggs and Stratton rod and gasket set on Amazon for $23 and they got it to me in 18 hours with free Prime shipping! Fit perfect! I removed the head, cleaned all the gaskets off and cleaned the head and intake to like new. Replaced the broken rod, adjusted the valves and put it all back together with the new gaskets. The smile on his face and it sounding like it is brand new was worth it. Took about 8 hours over 2 days, that’s how I spent Easter lol! So glad the part fit, worked and was delivered so fast. I have been a small engine mechanic for 30+ years and I’ve seen a lot of this happen to the single cylinder Briggs and Stratton engines so it’s no surprise that it has happened to me. Yes it’s a true OEM part and the exact fit. And It’s a good value for the money, but Briggs and Stratton should have made it out of steel instead of aluminum because when I installed it. And set the rocker arms to .006 on the exhaust rocker arm and .004 on the intake rocker arm and got the engine running properly after about 10 minutes of operation it had bent so I had to take it apart and straighten it out and put it back together again now it’s running good again. It was a very easy install just had to remove the valve cover and loosen up the retaining bolt on the rocker arms and then the ball nuts and everything goes back together in reverse order. and the only reason why I had to replace it was because the plastic insert on the guide plate was broken and it had ground the last push rod in half so that was the only reason why I had to replace it. In my experience of having a aluminum pushrod instead of steel makes no sense at all they should have both been steel like all others.

There is no need for a fail safe in this situation. as another reviewer had claimed. The push rod don't break before a valve is bent and there should be no reason for that to happen unless well the aluminum push rod breaks first then wedges itself holding the valve open so it can then bend a valve. It is a BIG FLAW! It is the reason for bent intake valves. Granted i have replaced a few hundred of these aluminum rods and only 20 or so have wedged the valve open but still that would be 20 less engines with a bent valve and hundreds of engines that wouldn't of needed brought to me. It is ok tho i do like the money. The rod itself is just like the OEM so it will last about the same as OEM. Nothing better then OEM here.

This part is the valve push rod for the intake valve on a briggs and Stratton 17.5 hp engine. The rod is aluminum and replaced the old rod that got bent when the engine backfired.
