Adam mentions GNU radio, but you can also get the rtl-sdr suite of utilities that are very useful. Several packages apps for aircraft tracking (dump1090), ham radio, digital voice trunking, NOAA weather satellite decoding, and other uses are also available. I have mine running the PiAware software on a Raspberry Pi and feeding the FlightAware site. It's now employed 24 hours a day, so I had to buy more dongles to keep playing! :-) **Q: What's the difference between this and the NooElec NESDR mini 1? Can I use this one as airplane radar?** A: The main difference is the tuner IC used in the design (another big difference is the improved, telescopic antenna). I don't see one located on it in the pictures** A: It is on the thin side near the rear. It is a Push-on MCX connector that is very small and flimsy. You will need a $5 MCX to SO-239 or some other adapter cable to connect it to a larger antenna.
