Dental relief - WHEN USED WITH CARE!
Excellent value for quality product. Despite the "aromatherapy" promotion I bought this for dental use. When you go to the dentist and he numbs you with a q-tip of pleasant smelling fluid before giving you an injection - guess what's on the q-tip? That's right... There's a lot of misinformation online about this - so I thought I'd give my 2 cents. If you search you can find clinical studies that show the effectiveness of clove oil for dental use as an antibacterial, pain reliever, and more. It was recommended to me by a friend in an emergency situation of extreme, 3 Motrin pain. It works. There are many warnings about using it with a carrier oil to dilute it. All well and good. If it touches certain delicate skin areas it will burn like acid. If it works for you in diluted form - do that and be happy. I needed more strength. You must handle it with care and use a TINY amount. If you shake the bottle, remove the cap, and wipe the inside of the bottle cap with a cotton swab - THAT'S ENOUGH. Give it a minute or two. You will probably salivate - DO NOT SWALLOW. Spit it out. If necessary repeat with slightly more oil on the swab. In severe cases you may want to put a couple drops on a small piece of cotton and leave it directly on the affected area for a minute or two. Again: DO NOT SWALLOW. It probably won't harm you to swallow a trace amount - but I generally swish the saliva - spit and wash out with water. It may not be good to swallow trace amounts 3 times a day - so go with what feels right to you. Be careful not to get any on your fingers, and especially - DO NOT TOUCH ANY SENSITIVE SKIN AREAS. It won't burn your gums - maybe your tongue a little - definitely your cheek - maybe your lip. USE IT CAREFULLY - WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY - WITH SOAP. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING BEFORE WASHING YOUR HANDS. Take my word for it. First time I used it I didn't notice a tiny trace amount left on my fingertip. But I DID notice it 10 minutes later after scratching a little itch in a delicate area. WOW did I notice it! Anyway - this NOW oil is good potent quality. It comes in a brown bottle to protect it from light (which is necessary if you don't want to waste your money). And it give you 4 times the amount you would get for the price of other brands. I have used it to treat a severe tooth ache and was able to sleep though the night. I cleaned and disinfected the area and continued using the oil up to 3 times a day as needed. I was able to stop taking NSAID pain relievers and the worst of the tooth problem cleared up within a few days. Getting adequate dental care is a big problem for me and this oil has been a life saver.

When it arrived I was very happy with the pungent odor and flavor-then I discovered something ...
I began looking for steam distilled clove oil a few weeks ago as part of a treatment for Candida Albicans; a potentially pathogenic fungus. Clove oil is almost pure eugenol; the aromatic compound from which it gets its flavor and aroma. Anyone who has eaten spiced ham or drank spiced cider probably is familiar with this famous spice's character. Eugenol is beneficial for many reasons. Clove oil has powerful antioxidant. antiviral and antimicrobial properties. It attacks and destroys the cell walls of microbes such as bacteria and fungi making it a very valuable weapon in the war against candida, nail fungus, bacterial infections, et-al. Knowing that pure essential oils could be very expensive I was ecstatic to find four ounces of pure steam distilled oil for under twenty dollars! I ordered it on the spot. When it arrived I was very happy with the pungent odor and flavor-then I discovered something that caused me some consternation. The bottle was labeled 'not for internal use' despite the fact that the information states that it's good for general digestive health. After a few days of looking for an alternative I finally emailed Now Foods; the producer of the product. They very kindly cleared this matter up for me; saying this: "> Our 100% pure essential oils are food grade. Safe to take internally > when properly diluted beforehand. We don't state that on our label > because we are marketing the essential oils for aromatherapy purposes > and stating safe for internal use at the same time would violate label > regulations. We encourage our consumers to consult a reference, > recipe, etc. to ensure safety. Clove Oil is steam-distilled. No use of > chemicals or solvents. It is 100% Clove Oil." This means that the oil is safe to use as a flavoring, anesthetic for mouth sores (at which I understand it excels), and for general digestive health and as a suppliment BUT AS STATED it must be properly diluted and applied. The oil by itself should never be used without at first diluting it. It's too strong. There are many resources available on the internet and in other health publications that explain the proper use of essential oils. These oils are often toxic at full strength-I URGE YOU to take notice of this before you use this product. No matter what you plan to do with it it is very powerful and a little should last you a long time. I'm writing this review primarily because I desired to use it for internal use and could not find any solid answers on the matter. I saw by reading the reviews that there were many such questions. I hope this puts this question to rest for all times. So yes the product is not adulterated with anything that would make it unsafe for use but PLEASE do some research before using it internally! I want to state that Now Foods' support is very concise and quick and they answered my question thoroughly to my satisfaction within a day. Due to its low cost, high potency and due to the alacrity and clarity with which I was assisted by Now Foods' customor support I'm giving this five stars. I hope this review is helpful.

Provides INSTANT RELIEF for Tooth Pain!
Now Foods Clove Oil is an Essential Oil so you know it's 100% pure. Clove oil is very useful for several different things. It's especially useful for relieving tooth & mouth pain. If you like or, don't mind the taste of cloves then, this oil will work incredibly well for you. If you dislike the taste or, even the smell of cloves, I simply can not stress this enough. It would STILL be so worth having this in your medicine cabinet as a stand-by "Emergency Staple" for that possible day when either yourself or someone else is in excruciating pain from a sudden & unexpected dental issue & cannot get to a dentist right away. This product will bring instant relief to a toothache caused by a cavity, absess, extractions, root canal, dry socket, etc. It's very similar to Eugenol, part of the essential oils found in nutmeg that dentists use to pack an open root socket; usually from an extraction. To use Now Foods Clove Oil for tooth or mouth pain, just pour a tiny bit, maybe 5-10 drops into the cap then, dip a Q-tip into it. Place the Q-tip onto gumline of the offending tooth or, around the area in your mouth that is causing you pain. Be careful not to allow the tip of your tongue to touch the oil or it will instantly feel numb or cause. A burning sensation. Also, do not use on any open cuts or sores. The same burning sensation would be intense as a result. Some are more sensitive to cloves than others, so be sure to use only a minimal amount to start. This brand is very potent & works extremely well! I don't even need to use those strong pain killers. Just so long as I have this & a bottle of ibuprophen (for swelling) in my purse! Now Foods Clove Oil also smells wonderful! Mix a few drops with Nutmeg, Cinnamon & Orange oil into a pot of steaming hot water to let it slowly simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Your home will smell like you've just baked an apple pie! Clove oil is great for adding scent to potpouri & Candle making, too! Now FOODS Clove Oil comes in a 1, 2 or a 4oz bottle.

The scent is spot on, not synthetic or chemical.
I love this brand of essential oils. They sometimes cost a little more but quality is what I've always gotten from them. This scent is spot on, no chemical or synthetic smell ever to this or any of the many different essential oils I order from Now. I use clove essential oil to add to my diffuser with lemon, citrus bergamot or eucalyptus oil to give my rooms a fresh, clean and warm smell. Orange essential oil and clove makes for a great Christmas scent but I like it year round sometimes also. I also use clove, eucalyptus, tea tree, neem oil and peppermint essential oils in a mixture of about an ounce or two of 70-90% isopropyl/rubbing alcohol added to 1 -2 cups of water in a spray bottle to sprtiz around my kitchen and bathroom to repel and kill bugs like roaches, spiders, ants and silverfish. I live in an apartment building and no matter how clean I keep my home, occasionally thanks to my neighbors, I get a few bugs which this mixture repels quickly and even kills if they come into contact with it. The 1 ounce bottle lasts me at least a month of regular preventive bug spray or as a great and comforting smelling oil for my diffuser.

Great for gum infections.
Like other NOW foods products I've tried it seems pure and works well. This review is about the dental use of clove oil. Clove oil is one of the "alternative medicines" that really work. Dentists actually use it to pack dry sockets. It numbs and it can treat or at least temporarily soothe an infection. -Gum infection: I have a wisdom tooth I waited too long to remove. Now the roots are too long and I'm stuck with it. Twice I've had an infection ( pericornitus) that erupts under the gum flap where the tooth didn't fully erupt ( operculum). The first time the dentist gave me antibiotics. The second time I treated it with clove oil expecting a temporary fix until I could go to the dentist. But it actually cured the infection. And it was pretty bad, so bad that my jaw ached. If you are using clove oil for something serious you will need to flood the tooth and gum area. I soaked a cotton ball and bit down on it for 15 minutes a day. Full strength the oil will hurt or blister your lips, tongue and anything else it touches. But dabbing it on with a q-tip or diluting it if you have an infection is not going to cut it. -Toothache: If your tooth hurts the infection is under the enamel and down in the root. External products can't get to that the way they might with a gum infection. You WILL have to go to the dentist. But the clove oil will provide temporary relief, numb the area and at least partially fight the infection if it can get to it through a cavity or other opening. Again, you pretty much have to flood the tooth with it full strength. Clove oil is a good thing to travel with if you get a toothache and want to wait until you get home to go to a dentist. -Regular hygiene: For this you should definitely dilute it because it really burns. I think it mixes better with oil than water. I like grapeseed oil because it has no taste. You can dab it on the gumline and problem areas or do "oil pulling'" ( google it) if you have 30 minutes to spare.

I Totally {{HEART}} Now Foods Clove Essential Oil 4oz Grade: B++; or 4.85-Stars!
The incredibly strong, natural anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-fungal and antiseptic properties of therapeutic grade Clove (Bud) Essential Oil has powerful anti-bacterial and healing properties and has been used in everything from treating diseases of the skin (eczema/psoriasis/acne, dermatitis of the scalp and body), to use in conjunction with Tea Tree Essential Oil in controlling and eliminating mite pests (dust mites, bed bugs, scabies, even head lice), and oral/dental related issues such as toothaches and gum infections when applied directly to the area on it's own, or when a few drops are added to your favorite antiseptic mouth rinse (like Listerine) and used in combination with Peppermint Essential Oil to aid in alleviating body odor and gassiness issues, and eliminating internal parasites and yeasts. In 2010 the National Center for Biotechnology Information Human Genome/US National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health published a study by Australian researchers C. Pasay, et, al, that showed essential clove oil was able to successfully kill mites, etc. The article was published online: the National Center for Biotechnology Information Human Genome/US National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health* You can do a Google search to find the article or on the site search: PMC2920318 NcbiDOTnlmDOTnihDOTgov/pmc/articles/PMC2920318/ additionally In 2113, the National Center for Biotechnology Information Human Genome/US National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health published a study by F. M. Sakr, et al., that showed use of therapeutic grade Tea Tree Essential Oil combined with Minoxidil and Diclofenal (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) was notably more effective than Minoxidil alone in regrowing hair. You can do a Google search to find the article or on the site search: PMC3686323 NcbiDOTnlmDOTnihDOTgov/pmc/articles/PMC3686323/ --- The unique properties of Clove (Bud) Essential Oil (and similarly Tea Tree, Peppermint, Rosemary) allow it to help other oils and blends that benefit the skin and hair (and hairloss) to function more effectively when included, than when not. The only downside is that essential oils can be a lot more expensive than other oils, but you definitely will save money over time by investing in the larger size bottles when making these types of purchases. Note: For Topical Use Clove Essential Oil can be quite strong, so we recommend trying the Tea Tree Oil on it's own, first and then trying the Tea Tree + Clove blend if the condition persists without noticeable improvement.. -- Internally: 1-2 small drops of Clove Essential Oil + up to 4-5 drops Peppermint Essential Oil. Externally: Traditional Coconut + EO Emulsion To prepare 6% eo oil blend: place 1tbsp + 1/4 tsp Tea Tree Oil, only in 1-cup Organic unrefined Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil (melted) and apply to face, body and scalp (if hair is very fine apply to scalp at bedtime and rinseout in the mornings) Many ayurvedic therapies successfully involve the use of therapeutic grade essential oils to treat skin disorders and also to kill parasitic mites, etc.. 6% eo blend (using Tea Tree eo + Clove eo in Coconut Oil) To prepare 6% eo oil blend: place 1tbsp of TeaTree essential oil + 1/4 tsp (up to ½ tsp) Clove Essential Oil in 1-cup Organic unrefined Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil (melted) and apply to face, body and scalp (if hair is very fine apply to scalp at bedtime and rinseout in the mornings). Alternative 6% eo blend (using 100% Pure Grapeseed Oil + Tea Tree eo Emulsion): Note: Most people tolerate Tea tree eo very well, but sometimes the Clove eo can be reactive as well as the Coconut Oil. In this case it is recommended to simply place place 1tbsp + 1/4 tsp (up to1/2tsp) of TeaTree essential oil, only in 1-cup 100% Pure Grapeseed Oil and apply to face, body and scalp (if hair is very fine apply to scalp at bedtime and rinseout in the mornings).. Note: If a stronger (anti-parasitic) blend is required add additional Tea Tree Oil, but if/when adding additional Clove Oil, but be very careful as Clove Essential Oil is 'hot' and too much can burn, so add enough to the point where you will feel warm and aggressively burn the skin parasites, but not enough to blister your skin. Essential Oil blend solution should not exceed more than 8% total essential oil/s per 1-cup of carrier oil in the formulary.. And for Day-To-Day Maintenance following use of the 6% EO treatment a less potent dilution of about 1%-3% is recommended that will be just enough to maintain remission, but not so strong as to over stimulate / aggravate the surface of the skin during periods of normalcy/remission. 1.5% EO blend - 3/4tsp + 1/16tsp Tea Tree Oil added per 1Cup Coconut Oil (or Grapeseed Oil) used for day to day usage. Special notes; Many people suggest that Tea Tree Oil works fine on it's own, most of the studies used 'either' Tea Tree Essential Oil or Clove Essential Oil, so unless specifically treating for bedbugs, and other pests, try the Tea Tree Oil on it's own and wait 2weeks to assess quality of improvement to determine if the additional oomph (or expense) of the Clove Oil is needed... Essential Oils are quite strong, so they need to be diluted with a good carrier oil such as Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed Oi or Sweet Almond Oill. And if using Tea Tree Oil for acne issues, it's best to add a few drops to 1-2tbsp 100% Witch Hazel (alcohol-free) before spot applying to the skin. Overall, for the medicinal benefits alone, pure Clove Oil is a great buy at almost any price. Our grade: B++; or 4.85-Stars!

A must have in your medicine cabinet for dental emergencies
Product arrived quickly, in a bubble wrapped envelope and in addition had bubble wrap taped around it. The container is glass and has a nice looking label. I think it's actually bigger than 1 fl. oz (30 mL)- I say that because I have a 1 fl. oz tincture of Safeway brand Iodine and this oil tincture is a bit taller and wider than that. As for the product, very potent, and high quality. I purchased this for the purpose of making homemade fillings. You mix a drop or two of clove oil with zinc oxide powder, roll it into a ball, and place it in the cavity hole. I have not received my zinc oxide yet, so for right now I am using it as a pain reliever. My tooth has a huge hole in it and exposed nerve, which words can't even describe how painful it is. I pretty much cannot function when this tooth flares up - it effects all the nerves in my body. Believe you me, if I owned an ice skate I would have long ago re-enacted the scene of Tom Hanks in "Cast Away". I cannot afford to go have this tooth pulled, I live paycheck to paycheck, perhaps in 6 months from now but I needed relief, and fast. What I did was take a piece off a cotton ball, rolled it into a tiny ball, used tweezers to stuff the cotton piece into the cavity hole, then I took an eyedropper full of the oil and carefully released it into the cotton. Instant relief! So much better than that orajel crap that wears off right away. Be very careful with this stuff, it is very strong. Will burn your tongue if you use too much and it leaks into unwanted areas of the mouth. I plan to continue stuffing/oiling the cavity for three days, in hopes of killing the tooth nerve. After that, my zinc oxide should arrive and I can make the filling. By the way, the clove oil/zinc oxide combo is the same stuff the dentist uses as a temp filling, it can last up to two years. I am pleased with my purchase and am thankful I found a solution for my agonising pain. This is a must have for medicine cabinets and first aid kits! Make sure you purchase an eye dropper like another poster suggested, will help with precision application.
