The unit has a bolt in the center of the bottom that comes with a hand screw knob similar to a facet handle. I used a concrete stepping square drilled a hole it its center and screwed it to that. It makes it all pretty heavy and I doubt anyone will attempt to carry it off, but they could I guess. What I started to do and probably should have, was to dig a hole in the ground like a post hole, perhaps a little wider at the bottom. Fill it with concrete either mixed or dry, insert the bolt allow it to set up, place the mailbox on it , screw it down. I have had it in place for a couple of months and love.
