Do i need to use a threaded pipe on the discharge hole or any 1 1/2 pvc pipe (sched 40) will work?

Yes1) You will need a  threaded pvc adapter.  The threaded end fit the pump and glue 1 1/2" pvc pipe into the other end 2) Drill a small hole as per instructions on the vertical rise so the pump doesn't airlock3) I would also install a one way valve (check valve) on the vertical rise about $10 or so at Menards..........they are rubber and connected with hose clamps.Should work finethank youBill Sparks

I'm replacing it and it says to drill a 1/8 inch hole on the extraction pipe but my existing one does not have one, do I still need one?

The pump itself has airlock protection built in, but nonetheless the instruction manual does still recommend a 1/8" hole be drilled (not far from the pump discharge) to prevent airlock, IF a check valve is being used (most modern sump pump installations do utilize check valves to prevent back-flow). For my particular installation, I do use a check valve so I drilled the 1/8" hole about 1" above the pump discharge on the PVC pipe. Haven't had any issues.

Cord length. The standard cord is 10 feet long. The pumps with -2 have a 25' long cord. -3 pumps have a 35' cord. -5 pumps have a 50' cord.

I'm having switch issues with my "Z" 53 1/3HP pump so I talked to a Liberty rep today about sizing and he calculated everything and said that I am right at the middle of a 1/3HP (257) and a 1/2HP (287). No way to answer without knowing how many feet of head you have.  If "a long way" means 15-20' then go for the 1/2 hp.  Up to 10' a 1/3 hp is plenty.

If it short cycles it will wear out sooner and leave you unprotected from a flood, so bigger is not always better.
