Review: Fantastic - I have all of Ina's books and use a lot of recipes from each of them, but this one in particular is my most used of all. As with all of Ina's recipes the instructions are clear and easy to follow and always turn out perfectly and are incredibly delicious. The photographs are stunning and I always prefer cookbooks where there is an accompanying photograph of the dish with the recipe which Ina's books always have. I also really like the extra information included in this book such as easy tips for a dinner party, setting a beautiful table etc. Recipes in regular rotation for me are: Tomato and Goats Cheese Tarts Tuscan Lemon Chicken Spring Green Risotto Honey Vanilla Pound Cake There is only the 2 of us and I find that the recipes halve very well too as Ina does seem to make a lot! Review: Brings back the flavour! - Great book with receptors from the series,

Excellent book
I bought this on the back of the television series and was not disappointed. Don't listen to the whingeing about the book being in "American" and there being no translation. All it takes is a bit of common sense and a set of AMERICAN measuring cups. English ones are a different size and won't work for cakes and recipes which require precision. The American measuring cup holds 8 oz or 237grames - English measuring cups hold 250grammes. Doesn't sound like muck but it can be disastrous! They are easy to find and not expensive I bought mine (made by Tala, a good make) in the local pound shop but Amazon carries them too. The only thing I would warn the unsuspecting about is that Ina is very heavy-handed with the salt (as are a lot of American cooks).

Excellent cookery book
I would highly recommend this edition of Ina Garten's book. Her recipes are easy to follow with useful explanations at the back and superb pictures of each completed dish. I have gathered up many cookery books over the years and this one comes near the top of my list of favourites. Well worth buying and a pleasure to read.

Great content but to recipes are the same from her other books
I love Ina Garten and the Barefoot Contessa series. However, as I have collected all her previous books, I was a bit dissapointed with this one. Her recipes are great, easy to do and always delicious. But this book is mostly made up of recipes from her previous books. So if you don't have her other books then it is a great buy. If you have her other books then keep in mind many of the recipes you already have. I give 3 stars for the duplications of recipes. Otherwise it would be 5.

Easy Cooking
Ina delivers the written word on food just as easy as she does on her television shows. This book gives fool proof instructions and delivers amazing and original food that is well flavoured and good to look at. Ina also mentions the importance of 'table settings' rarely stressed by UK Celebrity Chefs and food writers. A lovely book

Lovely book with recipes currently televised on Food Network
This book contains recipes from the Back to Basics series on Food Network . IT is a glorious book, beautiful , well produced. THe copy I ordered was said to be second hand. It is absolutely pristine, a couple of pages had not been separated- effectively a new book and it arrived only 3 days after ordering, well protected in a padded envelope.Good service from the seller.

Cooking my way from cover to cover
As soon as I started reading Ina's introduction, I was hooked. I almost like her cookbooks more for her narration than the recipes! Not to say the recipes aren't excellent--most of them are. Not everything in the book is to my taste, and that's fine. She has a few "exotic to some" ingredients but I'm not buying Ina's cookbook looking for "5 minutes or less recipes". Personally, I love food, I love to cook, and I love shopping for ingredients. I don't want to make a recipe that calls for imitation crabmeat or a packet of ranch seasoning. That's not Ina's style. Not that there's anything wrong with such time & money savers, but if that's what you're looking for in terms of "Basics" this is not the book for you. Also, her ingredients are very New England (as evidenced by all the lobster sometimes) but that's where she lives. She's cooking what she knows. No one can fault her for that. Her recipes are tried and true favorites with a twist, like beef stew and pork tenderloin, roasted sweet potatoes and confetti corn. Each recipe, however, has a slight twist to make you WANT to make it. And there are a few new recipes in there too, that make me want to expand my pallette like the Celery Root and Apple Mash that has potatoes in it. The book has a definite seasonal feel. Most of the recipes are late summer to winter, with a focus on winter vegetables, hearty meats, and stews. There are no shortage of tomato recipes though--which has me salivating for next August. One of the best chapters is the first--Appetizers--her ideas for cocktails and appetizers are phenomenal and I'm trying almost all of them as soon as possible! You don't want to miss her roasted pepper crostini or the cheddar and thyme biscuits (I've made them and they're great!) As usual, photos and styling are excellent. Her tips/advice are valuable. Ina's books are my go-to standbys and this book will be no exception.

A Classic Staple
This book is phenomenal. It's one of the few I pull out again and again to make recipes from and they are always crowd pleasers. This is a great book for learning how to make an array of simple, delicious recipes and all the gorgeous photos make it perfect or new or aspiring cooks. I would definitely recommend this cookbook to others! Ina Garten is a staple and a classic.
