The way it is designed it easy to use for relative safety anywhere around town. I would not recommend this for use in a really threatening, high crime neighborhood. I feel that this would not provide the "ultimate" protection you are looking for, but for the rest of us going to school and work that want to park our bike for a couple of hours around a pole and simply don't want a teenage boy walking away with our bike. This is great and easy to use.
