Each knife has a color coordinated sheath to cover, and protect the blade. I am a huge fan of ceramic knives. I bought a different set about four years ago and they were fantastic. They do eventually chip and need to be replaced but are inexpensive enough that it's not a big deal. These are nice and sharp. I'm not completely sold on the sheath, though. I feel like water could get in there and it could get funky. I guess you don't really need to wash the sheath every time. I liked my old set in that they came in a molded foam box which protected the knives. These are just packed in a box without the foam bit I guess they count on the sheaths for protecting the knives.
