how quickly do the temperature and humidity readings get updated? in a minute, or in ten? and its real size?

The temperature updates within seconds while the humidity may take a few seconds more to stabilize and prodcue the display.

how tall are the numbers?

Mine, which is a model 365510 has numbers just a shade under 3/8", probably closer to 5/16". I find them adequate for the job at hand.
