I already know some calligraphy, having dabbled in it for years, but I found this book to be very helpful. I like that there is plenty of room in the book for practice, which, of course, makes perfect. It was very easy to follow and well laid out. Also, it seems fairly complete in itself. My son is also now at the age where I started learning cursive writing. I personally have okish writing so I was interested to see how well this would go for me.This book is a short book with basic descriptions for the types of strokes to use, recommended writing utensils, and guides to follow for how to slant your writing and properly do calligraphy styled writing, including practice lines with the slant lines to ensure the right angle. I LOVE the simple trace, copy and practice method like you see your child do for learning their letters and numbers in Pre-K. It made it easy to sit down and practice and learn the style correctly.The book has you practice basic strokes at first, then leads to capital and lower case letters, how to combine letters into words, and then simple sentences. The hardest part, for me, was as an experienced writer in print and cursive, that I tried to do those a cursive style some instead. The practice paper and instructions are simple enough that I think I'll use this as a baseline for teaching my 2nd grader basic calligraphy/cursive skills also, which is great because I wasn't sure what I'd use for this as a homeschool parent.I do highly recommend this book for someone looking to learn a basic understanding of Calligraphy and how to do it properly. I personally still need to work on it more but can just use some of the blank slanted lined pages to continue my practice. If you're wanting a more in depth and complicated learning style, then this book isn't for you :) It isn't very detailed in instructions as a fair warning so may work best in conjunction with a video guiding you to proper utensil holding technique and such. It does have plenty of practice space for learning the style and you can always make more copies if needed.*I was contacted by the publisher and given this book for my honest opinion.
