Gyatso explains that we can improve, "our human nature and qualities through developing the capacity of our mind." We are to realize the far reaching effects of suffering on our future lives, abandon the delusions that so often cloud our mind, strive to attain permanent freedom from suffering, and practice moral discipline. All Dharma, or teachings of Buddha, is included in these four noble truths, directly or indirectly. As we learn to have a positive mind and rise above our self-cherishing and self-grasping, we can find inner peace and accomplish the real meaning of human life.This book was enjoyable to read. It caused me to think about why I do the things that I do. It uncovered my flaw in thinking others to be the cause of my pain, anger, or suffering. I believe we all struggle with this at times. Just as the director of an orchestra oversees the balance of all the different instruments, so we are the directors of our lives, and we are responsible for the balance of the many things competing for our attention. I have learned that I am responsible for how I act in and balance my life. I cannot blame others for breaks in my inner peace. This is only one of multiple reasons for enjoying this book.I do not believe all the things that Buddha taught, but I do have the utmost respect for all that he taught and for anyone who faithfully lives by the Dharma. I still have a very elementary knowledge of what Buddha taught, but I am grateful for what I do know at this point. There is much truth to be found in Buddha's teaching, and I believe that anyone who faithfully applies this truth will see their lives blessed. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso states at the end of his book that he truly desires that "compassion and wisdom develop and increase for everyone." The style of asking Rhetorical questions followed by answers is a great way to explain the concepts; we normally ask such questions to ourselves in our daily routine. This book is a must read for anyone over 30 Years, who wants to improve themselves and understand their behavior better. There are certain philosophies, like rebirth into lower being and good karma bad karma, which many may not agree with and deem impractical. Leaving those aside, you can get many great things explained in this book. I started practicing the Patience; immediately after I read this book. Now, I could see the difference in its application at my work, personal and social life. I could understand my wife, kid better. This book is worth every penny.
