It's not easy, but for DIYers, it's better than taking axles out!
It's not easy, but for DIYers, it's better than taking axles out! I would do this, again. I tried one side and waited a month. So far no leaks. The second one did leak because I did not secure the boot unit on the wheel side straight on. And, the screw clamp was not on as tight as I should. Oh! Best suggestion I learned: Take the wheel off in STRAIGHT steering; make sure car is secure! Then, with another, smaller jack/lift, try to raise the wheel up to make the axle less at an angle. Don't over do this. This is just to make the angles straighter and you will see why when you try it. :) Finally, the adhesive really works! Plan your steps. I think the instructions state that, too. Do a dry run with the boot sizing. I needed to trim both the inner and outer sides. Do this before you grease up. Glue the ONE side of the boot and give it an hour? to dry. It is not very pliable, so, you might think you'll break it when you put it over the naked and greasy CVJoint. YOU cannot have grease on the glued surfaces when you ready to finish it. Final, final: The material is not happy when sprayed with break cleaner. Degreaser OK. Personal experience. Good luck. Still, I would do this, again.

Doesn't fit OEM Trailblazer axle
Does not work for 2005 Trailblazer outter CV. Didn't find out till I already cut the 1.1" shaft end, cleaned and glued one side, greased the CV and as I closed up to test fit, the factory axle (tire side) is 3.6" using a caliper tool. Huge waste of time and money

Good quality but may not hold for all cars
Used on a nissan, the boot didntfit perfect despite being able to change the diameter, however it didnt rip fully, just the end after the clamp

Good alternative to axle replacement!
Replaced torn boot on '04 Elantra GT. Boot material is a plasticized-rubber, so might be difficult to cut. I used a grinder to trim it to the right size. Was able to slip on without using the 4 'pull-tabs'; needed to cut off the tabs so that they do not rub against the rotating wheel. Make sure the metal bands are positioned correctly in the shaft 'groove' prior to tightening. Glue dries within 5 secs per instructions, so need to work quickly when gluing the boot seal closed around the axle. (I glued one side first prior to wrapping around axle.) Was being careful, so repair took longer than I thought; was concerned about cutting too much boot material off. (Again, grinder cutting wheel worked well for me to cut the tough boot material.) Boot has been on 2.5months and still holding up well; checked on it today. I would definitely buy again; much easier than replacing then replacing the entire axle, wheel hub, etc. and any/all problems that may be encountered with that. I imagine that people that had problems with this replacement boot did not follow the instructions, installed improperly, trimmed the boot improperly, or installed the wrong size boot.

Was pleasantly surprised. Still on miles later.
I was pleasantly surprised. The application is a but messy. You have to mock it up and trim it, which is a greasy mess, then use brake clean to get the boot clean again. Then here comes the super glue, which you will inevitably get all over you hands. HOWEVER. This boot has been on for probably 2k miles, and has yet to split. I laughed at myself for trying this, as I stood there with gloves glued to my hands. However, again, I remain impressed that the boot actually worked, is designed well, and is proving durable on a jeep. Be fast with the glue...hard to lock the ridges in with it on the axle. I would buy it again.

I would give no stars if I could
I purchased this in the attempt to fix my CV Axal the boot cost me $30. I had to cut the original one off that only had a small hole but a big enough hole that it was leaking grease I went through all the procedure to get this thing installed it looked good. It was clean, and I took it out for a drive once. Now everything in my vehicle wheel well is covered completely with Grace even though I tightened the clamps as hard as I could just turning corners popped this thing off. I’m not sure what else to do at this point other than buying a CV joint. I expect more from Dorman but now I’m out even more money because I bought junk when I should’ve just bought the replacement CV and called it a day. I’m very upset because at this point how do I return something like this? Clearly I can’t just rip it off of the vehicle and send it back. Everything is covered completely with grease. If you’re reading this because you’re on the fence just look for a good remanufactured CV joint don’t waste your money

Easy but had to trim shaft side and cv joint side
Easy, but had to trim shaft side (too small of a hole) and cv joint side ( too large to fit over joint)

Waste of money
Went on ok, but after a week the clamps had come loose, grease leaked out and grit got inside cv shaft. Cleaned out and repeated, ensuring clamps were as tight as possible. Same result a week later. Tried one more time and again same. By this time Cv shaft was trash and had to be replaced. Not worth one penny.

Good DIY CV boot
Held up so far

Good idea, a bit difficult to install.
This saves a great deal of time with not having to disassemble/remove the entire CV shaft from the car, but is a pain in the butt to get completely closed up without getting any grease in the seams. I ended up only getting it 90% closed, and put a sealant on the part that did not pull in. Time will tell if this holds up or not. I would think that if you removed the strut to be able to get the boot completely straight, it would be much easier to close and seal, but that would be defeating the purpose of this split boot.
