HX Stomp Multi-Effects Guitar Pedal

Completely has changed the way I interact with guitar and bass. I love having it on my desk for practice sessions. Also don’t buy a tuner. The onboard one is awesome.

Once you learn how to use this thing, the sky is the limit. I recommend downloading some presets and ir's. You'll want a good starting point and the stock presets aren't the greatest in my opinion. Definitely experiment with some third party IR's but don't overlook the included cabs and microphones. Many many tones can be made from those alone. Then you have all the amp sims plus the amp/cab combos.... I've found the built in cabs are actually really good. Mostly because of all the different mics you can choose from for each cab. Literally any guitar tone you can think of, you can sculpt it on this thing. The effects, reverbs and delays are plentiful and great sounding. The wahs, whammy and pitch shifters are a lot of fun too if you get an optional expression pedal. (I recommend the M-audio expression pedal. It works good and its cheap) I can't say how it sounds plugged into an amp as a "multi effects" unit because I use amp modeling and run direct into either, a powered studio monitor, headphones, or a 12" Headrush frfr speaker. I would assume the hx stomp would make a great multi effect unit for an amp setup based on the functionality and quality of the effects. It's built like a tank and has mind blowing power for something so small. It's worth it's price absolutely. Support is top notch. No cons. Only positives. *if you're looking for a desktop stand for the hx stomp, a small bookstand works great. You can see how I use it in my pictures.

More powerful than the bigger multi-effects pedal in an ultra-compact size. A great addition for your pedal board. The overdrive effects are not great, so I added my own OD-1 pedal to it. I'll probably be adding a good compressor later too. But other than that, this machine is a monster.

There are many, many hours of video reviews on YouTube and around the web on this mighty multi-effect unit. I will keep my review brief: if you are thinking about this, it is a wonderful piece of equipment. I got this for a few reasons: 1. I gig both bass and electric guitar (bass more commonly), and this device has effects and amp models for both. 2. I live in an apartment where you can hear people having conversations through the walls if you are quiet enough, and I wanted to a courteous neighbor. 3. Kids are on the horizon, so my days of cranking tube amps are numbered. I expected that I would like this. I did not expect to like it as much as I do. It does what you hope any piece of gear you pick up will do— it inspires me to play. I’ve been practicing a lot more and having a lot of fun playing with new effects. A few small caveats: 1. I have 3 pairs of nice headphones to play through. If you don’t have good IEM’s or studio-style headphones, I would consider that an essential if you are going this route AND using the HX Stomp as your amp. 2. The unit interface is easy enough to learn after some time. I can throw together a preset and be up and running to play in minutes now. Like any new gear there is a learning curve. The HX Edit software is similarly easy to learn, but I think easier to use, especially for assigning switches, than the UI in the Stomp itself. Bottom line: this thing is incredible. The effects are great and the amp models have obviously been meticulously created. I strongly recommend one for those looking at an affordable amp modeling/multi-effect solution

I am surprised by how much I like the Stomp for bass! I have a great pedalboard with highly-regarded pedals including a Cali76 compressor and a SansAmp BDDI. I certainly won’t claim that the Stomp is better than the individual pedals, but it’s close enough that its size and flexibility win the day. I am currently using it as an all-in-one replacement for my pedalboard. The tuner (works well!) and the ability to use it as a practice amp with aux/in and headphones is frosting on the cake, as they say.

I made the decision to go full digital - I'm done with lugging amps around only to be at the mercy of the house equipment, sound tech, microphonic tubes, etc. And at first, I was willing to wait for the Fractal FM3. They announced the product in April, and in typical Fractal style, they are facing production delays, chip shortages, whatever - and they're not communicating. Enter the HX Stomp. TL;DR below. First thing: if it is the only thing you take to a gig or rehearsal besides your guitar, you will be fine. You can get some fabulous tones out of this box. Tones that are very musical and dynamic. It's responsive, it's powerful, it's compact. And there are easy ways to include your favorite effects - the simplest being an FX Loop (which you can have two of, if you wish). Remember that almost any choice you make to change your sound requires a 'block' - essentially a slot for a subroutine. Second thing: if you take the time to actually learn how to use it properly, it just opens up. Programming it is actually pretty simple once you've gotten a hang of the steps. The capacitance touch switches are a bonus here. You can also program directly in the software and like anything else, experience is your friend. Third thing: you will WANT to program it. You will want to take advantage of Snapshot mode. You will want to make certain that you level everything out. For example, in a program, you can split the paths with one path having a clean and comped tone and the other a dirty tone: that's three blocks, but just one footswitch. When you go from clean to dirty, you'll want to level it out just like you would on a two channel amp. Just remember, even though it's remarkably smart, it only does what you tell it to do. And then switches two and three can bring in boost, modulation, delay, tremolo, whatever. You can buy your way out of this step by getting third party programs if you wish. And third party Impulse Responses (which again consume a block) can be your tone's best friend. Fourth thing: if you are running this into the front of your amp or via 4CM, and you thus don't want to use it for preamps, cabs, simulations or IRs (or at least don't HAVE to), this is an enormously powerful tool to sit at the center of your board. The routing options and connections are almost endless. Yes, cables will come out of three sides of this thing, but six blocks for routing and effects would be more than enough. Fifth thing: external controls - additional switches, expression pedals, et al can be easily assigned and attached. However, in my opinion, if you find that you need all of the additional switches and such, just spend $500 more on the Helix LT. It has double the processing and 4 times the blocks, with an expression pedal built in - oh and 12 footswitches. This is designed to be a compact all-in-one for the straightforward player or as a compact modeling/effects tool within a larger rig. Turning the HX Stomp into DIY Helix LT will be more expensive and less satisfying. TL;DR: An enormously powerful tool in a compact package. It's best used as a compact all-in-one for a straightforward player - even as a complete amp and effects replacement - or as part of a larger rig where modeling and additional effects are wanted. There is a learning curve, but it is shorter than you might thing. Spend quality time building presets and the rewards are there.

I only like to have one guitar at a time. I don’t want to be a gear head I want to be a guitarist. I use this with a acoustic and fishman rare earth sound hole pickup. Then I feed it out to a head rush frfr “flat cabinet” or into headphones. I can get as distorted/boosted as I like with this setup. I can play most rock songs, fuzz it up or just add some light boost with a hint of phaser to the accoustic tone. No feedback because I noise gate the input. This is truely amazing piece of kit and I’m always getting compliments from people who like how nice my tones are. I had the XL but frankly it’s too big, and the main draw of this thing is the preamps and cabinets and IR. Onboard effects are nice but you have to take your time to stack them and adjust individual settings. When you start with HX EDIT you’ll want to wipe all the presets and build your own. To learn I downloaded a few “customtone” presets made by the Hx stomp community and started tweaking them. This unit shines alone as a small compact setup, or as a part of a modern “micro” pedalboard. I am so happy with my purchase.

Love it. Such a compact package full of tones. Updated to V3 firmware to get 8 blocks and new features. Poly capo has prevented me buying a 7 string. The Princess amp model is awesome for fendery cleans and there are plenty of great high gain amps. Using with 3rd party IRs I already owned, they were simple to load and use.

I've only just received this and I'm still just figuring it out. I bought it to be my "bass rig" for the band I play bass in, but I can see this playing a role in my other bands where I play guitar.

Great so far. I am a bass player looking for a complete pedal and this does it all. From Distortions to Equalizers and Compressors. It easy to use and program once you understand how it all works. You can add an extra 2 pedals to it! The cost is great, if you think about buying a quality Distortion ,Compressor, Tuner and Equalizer then you have already cover the cost of this unit. Plus you get Cab and Head sounds as well as Fuzz, Wah an 8 chain build area ( you can add different effect and cab/heads to a preset and save it to use on one of your footswitches and its only the size of 2.5 regular pedals.
