I can lay flat on my back and do my stretches without the hard floor being a problem. I definitely recommend this product for anyone with chronic pain or joint problems who want to do stretches or yoga on a hard floor. And the length and width is great; I can move around quite a bit and stay on the mat. The only thing to keep in mind is that it easily tears, so don't let your dogs run across it like I did (I had it laying out to "uncurl").
