Based on German designs dating from the end of the Second World War, the G3 had a rather circuitous and multi-national path to production. Thereafter, it had a long operational life that has not quite ended.Leroy Thompson does the honors in this well-written Osprey Weapon Series book. The narrative traces the origins of the G3 and its eventual production. Perhaps the most interesting part of the book, however, is the survey of the many countries and conflicts in which the G3 has made an operational appearance. The text is nicely supported with period photographs, modern illustrations, and the expected technical diagrams. Strongly recommended to students of the field. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gewehr Drei *by L***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 7, 2019* A little bit larger than my recent Osprey books, this is chock full of great info. I had no idea how many countries adopted and licensed the G3. I would gladly by a print of the Grey's Scouts artwork; great pics overall. Magnificent!I have one complaint worth a star: Since this is meant fora worldwide audience it should have both grams and pounds! Although I wish we had gone metric, I find it a real (and unnecessary) distraction to have to convert every damned measurement.Hats off to Leroy Thompson as well. I got so sick of his self-aggrandizement in magazines (parachuting bodyguard VIP sniper tunnel snake), but I have greatly enjoyed his books. I was fortunate enough to get some time on the G3 and MG3 while providing OPFOR to the Bundeswehr.
