MeacoDry ABC 10L White Quiet Dehumidifier For Home Damp & Drying Clothes

I have a small dehumidifier for my kitchen which has been good, but I wanted a larger one that would do the job in the conservatory in which we placed a panel heater to help dry out washing during the winter, but as this was going to create a lot of condensation it was important to keep this at bay. We also wanted something that wasn't going to cost a fortune to run and after reading the reviews for this Meaco, I thought I'd give this a whirl and I'm very glad we did. There is an easy to use interface which enables you to set the required humidity level (we set ours to the recommended setting of 55) and you can set it to run on either high or low (depending on how much the area needs dehumidifying). You basically just switch it on and leave it running and it will switch on and off automatically when the humidity rises over the set level until it brings it down again. This it does without having to fiddle with it, therefore it pretty much runs itself. There is an additional function - "laundry" - which you can switch on - designed for once you've hung up your washing and it drags the moisture out of the air faster. This function runs for 6 hours and then switches off. The only downside with this is that (from what I have experienced, so far at least), once the 6 hours has passed on laundry mode the machine doesn't automatically restart and you have remember to go back and switch it on again, which is a bit of a pain (I expect there may be a way to set it so this doesn't happen, but I haven't worked it out yet). You also have to check on it every so often to make sure the water collection isn't full as the machine will switch off then too. Apart from that, you can leave it on to do its thing. The amount of water this machine has pulled out is astronomical!! I can honestly say we have not had ONE drop of condensation since using it. We also have a smart meter and can see that it doesn't use a lot, despite being on 24/7. I am SO impressed and extremely glad I bought it. I told my parents about it and they have now bought exactly the same one, for the same reasons and they are also equally impressed and over the moon with the difference it has made. I would recommend this dehumidifier to anyone.

I bought this to combat condensation on our sash windows and to lower the humidity level in our one-bedroom flat which was causing damp walls during the winter months. After some research I decided on Meaco as they have a great reputation for quality dehumidifiers. I was about to purchase the Meaco DD8L which is a *desiccant* dehumidifier but decided to wait a few more months for the release of this new machine. The DD8L (desiccant) is a very quiet machine (37db) that warms the air slightly as it runs (perfect for cold spaces - boats caravans etc) but they do cost a little more to run. *Compressor* dehumidifiers like this one (the Meaco ABC) are cheaper to run. Up until recently, compressor dehumidifiers were quite noisy, so the desiccant machines were the more popular option for small properties. The Meaco ABC is a compressor but at just 35db it is the quietest dehumidifier available.. so it really is the best of both worlds. The Meaco ABC is small and looks far more pleasing to the eye than any other dehumidifier I could find. It has a humidistat which regulates the humidity to your chosen level (ours is set to 55). Once it reaches this level it switches itself off and then regularly tests the air from time to time to detect when to switch itself back on to dehumidify again. The 2.6 L tank at the back is easy to empty, the machine switches itself off when the tank is full. There is also a continuous drainage outlet but you will need to find your own (standard gardening) hose for this. This has a laundry drying setting which runs the machine at the higher fan speed (40db) for six hours then switches off. Within the first few hours the machine had extracted over a litre of water from the air. I can already feel the difference with the quality of the air in our flat and the walls have completely dried out. The big test will be this winter when the temperature drops outside, so I'll update this review in a few months time. I will also update this review if I run into any problems. So far I'm very impressed. Edit (December 2018) This is an amazing little machine. There is now no damp at all, the flat feels much dryer and warmer and consequently uses less energy to heat. The floors have stopped creaking and I've noticed bread stays fresher for longer. On very cold days there is still a little condensation on the windows but this has been greatly reduced. I don't believe it is possible to completely stop this in our flat with any dehumidifier. I have the machine placed not too close to a radiator and in-between rooms with all doors left open as often as possible. It *easily* regulates the RH of our one bed flat. It's very quiet for a dehumidifier (similar to a modern air-con machine). I would still prefer not to have it in the bedroom though (although I could get used to it easily enough). I never notice the sound during the day. Edit (October 2024) Six years later there are now newer compressor dehumidifier from Meaco, the Atete 1 and the Arete 2. I had this Meaco ABC 12L for six years before upgrading to the Meaco Arete (1) 10L a week ago. The reason I changed is because the internals of my ABC became mouldy, and there was an unpleasant smell. I think the HEPA filter in the Arete prevents this from happening. While the Arete is an improvement in almost every aspect, I’ve noticed it’s definitely noisier than the ABC. I was hoping the latest Arete (the Arete 2) would address this with a quieter operation - maybe by offering a lower fan speed without sacrificing performance. Unfortunately, it seems like they've opted for more power and more noise instead. This feels like a missed opportunity! Overall, six years use of the ABC seems like a decent amount of time, it's a great machine and still the quietest available!

The MeacoDry is an excellent dehumidifier . It works quietly, removes moisture fast, keeps the room at a perfect humidity level. It is easy to use , energy -efficient, great for drying laundry. Highly recommend.

Meaco is a trustworthy brand. If you're looking for a dehumidifier definitely look through their range, there's a good chance that they will have what you need. I chose this one based on their size guide for the size of my home (they were right), quietness, and running cost - and also looks, I'll admit that too. It's definitely made my life better. Having put the thing through its paces I'm ready to report back. I live in an old stone building, the kind with 3' thick rubble core walls, the kind where if you let the cold seep into the walls they still feel chilly the following June. Having said that it's not draughty at all and that in itself was proving a problem even with extractor fans in kitchen and wet room. By mostly leaving the dehumidifier to its own devices I have brought down the relative humidity and dried out the fabric of the building since coal fires stopped being a thing and the natural pattern of ventilation was disrupted. The result is greater thermic comfort meaning that the heating can be set much lower and be run for less of the year, and no more surprise mildew in the wardrobe and squishy cardboard cereal boxes. This took a while to achieve, but I gritted my teeth and held my nerve at it running all the time and needing to empty the tank a few times a day. The electricity cost turned out to be negligible, so my biggest fear of it not "breaking even" with running the heating more often to chase out the damp wasn't realised. In fact, I can't say that I've noticed the electricity usage at all. Gradually over the weeks, the tank took longer to fill up and then the thing stopped running and I worried that it was broken, but no, the building had dried out and reached the target humidity. Occasionally it powers up to keep the equilibrium, and this year being very rainy that's been more often, but it doesn't need to run continuously if not actively drying laundry or the shower room (same deal/space). As for laundry it performs well in dry mode as a dehumidifier, which is not a tumble drier so please don't expect it to dry anything as quickly as one, but I find it on par with a heated airer and I prefer it because the water is extracted into the tank rather than released to settle in the plaster and furnishings. The smaller the room you can confine the laundry(reasonably spaced) to the quicker it will dry. Really, I am very happy with my dehumidifier and am kicking myself for all the years spent looking for "solutions" to problem corners rather than shelling out and going for the root of the problem. Sometimes it gets chilly if I've left a window open and shut off the heating to let a good breeze through, but that raw, old house feeling is completely gone. However, I do have some niggles that it's only fair to tell you about: Firstly, the damn thing is heavy and I've marked the floor dragging it when it set off my sciatica! Meaco do make castors for this model and several others, but they're extra, you can only buy them from their website and they're always out of stock, oh, and they only send as signed for delivery which is hard to justify for the wheels alone. Just knowing that the wheels exist but aren't standard really rankles even if I know that the units are so keenly costed that the price of the castors included probably send more prospective customers off to cheaper rivals. I must admit that I always feel resentful toward Meaco every time I need to move the thing. I'd still recommend them but everybody, including the postie has got an earful about how pissed off I am that it lacks wheels. I might just be what people recall about the brand when they see it if they've come into contact with me - no damn wheels! 2) Lack of filters. The is a dehumidifier only, not an air purifier, but it needs a better, replaceable filter, esp since Meaco make such a song and dance about voiding the warranty if dust gets into the unit. Hoovering is not enough. Dust will get into the unit. It also collects in the non-replaceable fine filter covering the intake. Mine has already torn in several places in attempting to clean it. Still works fine though. 3) Care must be taken to clean the tank regularly and most especially if you're putting it away for a while because fine dust will collect in the bottom of the tank and go slimy otherwise. If you suddenly smell mildew when it's running this is where it's coming from. Don't let it get a hold. 4) It could really do with some sort of dust cover for when not in use, or perhaps just a dust lid. In a domestic setting one cannot expect dust not to be present, especially if used in conjunction with laundry. (see treats of dust voiding warranty) 5) There's no such thing as a silent dehumidifier! The night mode is blessedly dark and it IS quiet for what it is, but I couldn't sleep with this running in the same room as me. Just outside the door was is fine though. 6) It needs to be level or it makes noises in low mode, can be an issue in old houses.... I'd still recommend meaco (but they really ought to include the CASTORS) and would buy another. I'd also recommend you check their website to determine the size and spec that work best for you.

So, this isn’t by any means a long term review, just the first few days of ownership. But I thought best to leave a review, as my initial impressions have been brilliant so far. Unit is well packaged and thought out, the company seem to care which is a big bonus, just going on the presentation of the machine itself and accompanying documentation. It’s quiet, stylish and damn well does the job at hand. We bought this after our apartment (master bedroom, en-suite bathroom, hallway, kitchen/lounge) started to become very humid in the cold months we are now in, reaching around 82% in the living areas, 90%+ in the bathroom at all times. We were seeing condensation on the walls and windows, as well as mould growth. The air felt heavy, damp and cold. You could feel it. Washing took forever to dry on radiators and would often smell or remain damp afterwards. Being in London, we can’t exactly open the windows all day and let air flush through and the weather hasn’t exactly helped that either. We needed a dehumidifier. After looking on Which and Amazon, decided to buy this out of recommendation and price to performance. So far, it has not disappointed at all. Set it up on auto with a target of 55% humidity and left it running with all doors open in the middle of the apartment. Within the first hour of runnnig there was a noticable difference in the weight of the air, it already felt much fresher, with the sound when near it of trickling water being sucked from the air. Within the first 6, it dropped the humidity from 82% to 70% (bathroom finally dried too!) and removed a whole tank of water from the air in the apartment, from about 4pm to 10pm. I was astonished just how much water was in the air. Left it running over night and it was down to 59%, another tank full. With the bedroom door shut and it just on the other side, you can’t hear it on full power. So far, I love it. The air is fresh and light again, it feels warmer and no condensation on walls and windows. The bathroom is finally dry and clothes not damn or smelling. Much better nights sleep! Let’s just hope I never have to use that 2 year warranty! Edit: We set it up in the center of the apartment on Sunday when it arrived, in the hallway with all doors open, set to an auto target of 55% humidity. The hallway is as central as you can get in this place. The difference is astonishing. First few days, we emptied the tank 3 times every 24 hours. By mid week it had settled down to twice in 24hrs, and by the end of the week once in 24hrs with the unit only switching itself on once every other hour for about 30 minutes to regulate the humidity. The difference is incredible; - The air is light and fresh again, the cold doesn’t feel cold, the place retains heat unbelievably better and when we do turn the heating on, 10 minutes as we are toasty again! - Mould has stopped - Damp/condensation has all cleared up, windows are now perfectly clear again and walls dry! - The solid oak doors have shrunk, this sounds weird but when we moved in they were fine. Then after a few months we noticed we couldn’t shut them properly, swelling due to the humidity. Now just just glide shut again! - Clothes no longer smell or are damp. - Clothes actually dry! And so does the bathroom! - Generally, it’s a much nicer place to be, more homely and fresh The unit itself is so far brilliant; well made, stylish, efficient and quiet (bedroom door shut you cannot hear it). I’m still amazed just how much water comes out of the air when emptying the tank!!

I bought this for two reasons. I wanted it to help me dry laundry in winter, as I don’t have room for a tumble dryer. I had also noticed some mould around a bedroom window and wanted to dry out this other room. The brand was recommended when researching online and this was recommended by Which. My reading in the mould bedroom was initially 90. After leaving it on through the working day it reduced to 56 and the tank was pretty full. I shall keep using it in there. I hung a full load of washing in a small bedroom; hoodies, trousers, sports socks etc. after six hours in laundry mode it was mostly dry. I left it on in normal mode for a couple more hours and it was thoroughly dry. This will really improve my life in winter. I don’t find it too heavy to move, but I need to carry it with both arms. Each time I’ve emptied the tank, I have moved it very carefully but there has been a very small pool of water on the floor. This might be something to do with how I’m removing it (I have wooden floors so I can see it.) When drying laundry in the small room the room felt slightly warmer than the other rooms in the house (with the heating off). There was no noticeable difference in temperature when using it in a large bedroom to dry out the room. Something to bear in mind is that mine was delivered by DPD a day earlier than stated. This suited me, but you may need to make arrangements for this if you are ordering for the one day when you will be at home. Edited to add: I have worked out why there was a small pool of water on the floor after removing the tank. As this had also been mentioned by other reviewers, I thought I would add it here. There is a small hole at the top of the door to open the tank, which I had assumed was a finger hole for removal. This meant I was tilting the door slightly after hooking it with my finger. I have discovered that the actual way to open the door is by placing fingers in the two vertical ridges to the right and left of the door. This ensures you can pull it out without tilting. No pools of water when I use this method 😊.

so far just writing a review after the first use. I've been using a 12 year old dessicant dehumidifier and although I still think that machine is great I have been aware of how much electricity it uses. This one uses less than 3 times as little and has been running on minimal mode most the time today so will pay for itself in no time. The first thing I must note is how quiet it is. I know I went for the quietest I could find but I am surprised at how little it hums, as quiet as my dessicant one I would say. I am still getting used to how it actually works, there is very very little info in the manual. Like once it reaches the set humidity what does it do next. One time I checked on it it had turned itself off, another time it switches from full power to minimum power, at the moment it is sitting at 1% above the set temperature and is off, does it turn itself back on if humidity reaches a certain point again? I hope so but so far working great and saving power. It seems like a good purchase. Doing exactly what I wanted it to do, being slightly more powerful than my last one I think. So I would recommend it - however I have a few of small niggles with it -first the bad manual and what it actually does once it reaches the set humidity - second is the water tray is at the back of the unit. This bothers me. On my last one the tray was on the same side as the controls so all straightforward and easy to get to. Minor niggle really that just means the controls are basically upside down the way I like to use it - ie able to change reservoir fast and easily. The unit looks better with the water level indicator forwards anyway so yes slight design flaw. - this is nothing wrong about the unit , it's just my last one had a directional flap to direct the exiting air in any direction. I really liked that feature which I will miss but not a deal breaker. - and lastly one more niggle I have is that although it seems more powerful at reducing humidity than my last machine, where my last machine would have pulled out 1l of water from the air this machine did not produce any water. I could see it was working great but I was wondering where the water was going, until eventually it started coming out. All this means to me is that once used for the first time the machine will be filled with 0.5-1l of water. This is probably how all compressor dehumidifiers work and maybe nothing to worry about but will it last 12 years if it is filled with water all the time is my only concern. Overall despite the cons, liking this machine for what it is doing and probably the best I could find for my purpose. I will update if I have anything more to add.

Arrived as promised, looks great and I am very pleased. (See bottom of this review for additional comments after one and a half months use.) Ok so this review is after less than one day but I am exceptionally pleased. The instructions are simple and it worked straight from the box. In less than 5 mins I had checked the instructions and it was running. It looks good the controls are simple and it works as it says. I am particularly pleased that it switches off when the required humidity is reached but checks the air now and then and automatically restarts if the humidity rises. I have nothing to compare it with but it is doing what it says and taking water out of the air and I am delighted. I looked hard at the reviews and while there are slightly cheaper options this one really stood out as reliable and effective. It says it is quiet and it is quiet on the low setting, but I wouldn't want it in the bedroom, perhaps I would get use to it but I am a bit sensitive to noise. The high setting is still not noisy though, it is not in the room I mainly use and I can hear it but in general the sound is lost in the general daily white noise of a home, like the central heating boiler and passing cars etc. Visually I like that the water tank is situated at the back, it leaves a lovely smooth white presentation with rounded corners, I think they have worked hard at its appearance and it doesn't look out of place in my home. Practically though I find it awkward to reach over and remove the water tank from the back but I guess it will be easier after I have had to do it a few times and got the hang of it (* see comment later). But I am happy to have a little difficulty to get the neat smooth appearance. So I have no hesitation with giving it 5 stars in all areas but have not rated energy efficiency as I have not had it long enough. From my present perspective I have no hesitation in recommending this product, I think you will be very pleased with it. I will come back to this review and add more when I have had it for a few months. :- - Second Review - Well after 50 days I am still delighted, it has worked solidly every day. When the outside humidity is high and the house humidity rises this unit takes out more than 6 lt in 24 hours - this is good for a domestic appliance at normal room temperature. I have found that it works almost as well at low speed as it does at full speed, still taking out lots of moisture. The house feels different. It is worth experimenting with the location to get the best extraction rate. It is important to give it space around the back so you cant pop it tight in a corner and expect it to be excellent, the instructions say 50 cm clearance, probably good but i'm finding 35 cm works well in a central airy location. It seems to be coping well with a 2 bedroom chalet bungalow. Defiantly 5 stars and I am still delighted.

Acquistato per cercare sollievo nelle notti afose. Ho scelto questo modello/marca dopo varie ricerche. Definito il più silenzioso che ci sia: non posso dire che sia rumoroso, benché alla velocità minima, di notte, in camera da letto per poter dormire io devo mettere i tappi, sono però molto sensibile al rumore e senza completo silenzio non dormo. Senza rotelle: chissà perché non le hanno previste, bastava veramente poco per renderlo più pratico. Pesa circa 12kg, non molti magari, ma non è agevole spostarlo. Io lo lascio fisso in camera da letto, ma lo devo comunque spostare un minimo per lavare i pavimenti. Per agevolare lo spostamento e per proteggere il parquet ho messo i feltrini sotto. Utilizzato per la prima volta con caldo tropicale , scorsa notte, 29,5 gradi in casa: con anche le pale a soffitto accese in camera da letto, ho dormito bene, senza sudare. Sopporto comunque bene il caldo. la stanza non era fresca, ben inteso, il deumidificatore non rinfresca, ma grazie alla riduzione dell'umidità ha reso la temperatura seppur alta più sopportabile. Non mi aspettavo nulla di più se non appunto rendere le notti afose più secche. Nulla a che vedere ovviamente con un climatizzatore. Altra caratteristica che mi ha spinto ad acquistarlo è il fatto che il display si può spegnere pur lasciando il deumidificatore funzionante, così da evitare fastidiose luci in camera da letto di notte. Ultimo punto a favore è il fatto che la vaschetta raccogli acqua ha un coperchio, così che quando la si toglie per svuotarla non c'è il rischio di versarla per sbaglio sul pavimento. Tenete presente che arriva con spina inglese. Serve quindi un adattatore oppure dovete cambiare la spina.
