The Wheel, Sliced Bread, and The Duckbill Deck Wrecker!
Without any question whatsoever, the Duckbill Deck Wrecker falls into the same category as the wheel and sliced bread. Yes -- it's that practical. It is one of the finest and most useful tools for its purpose that I have ever owned. For the removal of old deck planks, nothing works finer! It saves you, at least, four-fifths of the time and effort (maybe even more!) that it would normally take using a hammer with a crow bar or pry tool. Not to mention that it works primarily from a standing position. No more wearing out your knees while trying to get pry leverage. For those who are refurbishing an old, worn-out deck or ramp, it enables you to spend most of your time and energy actually doing the re-building and not killing yourself on the demolition. It removes the old, unwanted deck planks without harming the underlying joists. The tool is strong and heavy-duty, yet quite easy to handle. Consider your purchase of this tool to be a one-time investment; it is indeed built to last for a lifetime. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Great Tool
If you are re doing a deck and if you don’t have this tool you get what you deserve. This tool makes deck demolition almost fun . Screwed nailed or whatever this tool had more than enough leverage you easily do the job and in a standing position. Between this tool and a zip wheel on a hand grinder a screwed deck is easy as pie !!!

Amazing; deserves more than a 5-star rating.
I am female, 66 years old, and not in the best physical condition. I have never taken apart a deck but contractors would not give me a quote for new decking unless they could see under the deck. It took me 2 1/2 hours to remove the first 2 boards that were rotten, where it was easy to get to the nail heads. I could not remove the next board. I could not even get to the nail heads. I read the reviews on this wrecker and thought that they must be exaggerated. Nothing could be that good. But I decided to try it anyway. IN 2 1/2 HOURS, I REMOVED ALL THE BOARDS IN A 16' x 16' deck. What more can I say? The pole is long enough to give leverage to make removing the boards easy, but not too long to be awkward. The claws rest on either side of the joists and reach under the deck to push up from below so that you do not need to find the nail or screw heads. It pulls the boards through the screws and nails. I will cut them off with a grinder. I used this for boards that are 6" wide. If I was using it for wider boards, I think I would cut off the nails remaining in the joists each time before I inserted the wrecker under the next board. The claws were caught on the nail and could not be pushed totally under the next board. If the nail was removed, then the claws could fit flush against the next board and extend under the board for its entire width. It was not a problem with 6" boards. I didn't crack any boards. But I think 8" boards would crack unless the nails remaining in the joists were removed so that the claws could go as far under those boards as possible. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR. BUY THIS BEFORE YOU TAKE APART ANY DECK.

WELL WORTH the investment
Fantastic tool for ripping up an old deck. I thought it was a little pricey at first but after trying to rip some boards up the traditional way for a few hours with a long pry bar and spare wood for leverage I bought this and was so happy I did. I would've paid twice this amount after the fact to save my back as much as it did. This thing is solid and appears as if no shortcuts were made with materials. The handle is comfortable with a semi-firm neoprene type of material. The leverage created allowed both me and my wife to work the tool efficiently while the other did other tasks. Pros: - HUGE back saver... - very solid construction and the head can be reversed for different situations as needed - designed to do one job and does it well - save a TON of time on my project - well worth the money paid and more Cons: - would be nice to have a built in nail puller possibly. Although thinking it through you'd need to bend down to get the pulled nail anyway so maybe not, unless you don't care and would drop them for later cleanup (or not) depending on your situation. - as you pull up a line of old deck boards and start on the next row the old nails can get in the way. Usually you can maneuver the tool sufficiently around them as needed when this happens but slightly longer tines might be good. This wasn't an "issue" by any means but more a potential improvement. I'm not sure if longer tines might actually create a situation where it reaches more than the width of single board when completely snugged up.

Duckbill Deck Wrecker is one of amazing tools I've ever purchased for my D
Duckbill Deck Wrecker is one of amazing tools I've ever purchased for my D.I.Y projects. After reading a lot of reviews of "deck wrecker" tools with various brands on several web sites, I decided to go with Duckbill Deck Wrecker: a lot of good reviews vs a very small number of "bad" reviews, plus that its price is reasonable if compares to other similar tools. I used it to remove my old deck boards 32 ft x 8 ft. Because I used screws, not nails for my old deck. Therefore taking out of all screws is a really time consuming task & it looks a "mission impossible" to me because of damaged & worn screw heads (I did even try to use screw extractor costs over $30.00, but it didn't work at all). If I keep doing "traditional way" in 1 or 2 hours a day, it may take weeks to complete. With Duckbill Deck Wrecker, within two hours I did remove completely all deck boards. I'm not a fast person & I work a little bit slowly in order to avoid damaging all my joists. Therefore if someone does faster, my old deck boards can be completely removed within 1 hour or so. In my way, in order to use Duckbill Deck Wrecker, I did remove my first line of deck board: I think you can choose any line that is easy to do. It doesn't matter it should be the 1st line or last line or in the middle. The purpose is that we have a space to place Duckbill Deck Wrecker under a deck board to remove. I hope my Duckbill Deck Wrecker will last for long time (after serving my project, it will be used for 3 or 5 decking project of my relatives & friends).

Having the right tool makes the job that much easier. If you are wrecking a deck put together with nails, this is a great tool to have. I took apart a 375 sq ft 2x4 deck in less than 3 hours. The boards were all in good shape so there was no fooling around once you get started. It provides great grip and terrific leverage.
