Starmark Pro-Training Clicker for Dogs, Reward-Based Pet Training

Dog, Chicken, Hamster training clicker.. ok ok, BUT That is NOT what I bought this for! I make short movies, and some above average reviews to entertain myself and share what I learn. Sometimes I use more than one video camera and often record separate audio tracks to improve sound quality when I bring it all together in post-production. We have a "clapper", you know, the board that shows scene, take, film Title etc... the "snap" that the board generates is so we can sync the audio tracks. BUT, that's cumbersome and I don't like always having to have that snap board. You can also clap your hands to create an audio spike which helps with syncing. Hand claps generate a broad audio-print and you can be a tad inaccurate that way. My FAVORITE method for syncing soundtracks between multiple cameras and audio recorders is this StarMark Clicker Dog Training System. This clicker is loud (loudest I could find) and produces a very clear and sharp "click" sound... to be specific two clicks... depression click and release click. What does that do? Well, it produces a very VERY sharp audio spike that allows me to align soundtracks with zero notable delay. Scene One... Click One Cycle... Scene Two... Click Two Cycles and so on! It's perfect, it hangs around my neck and is always ready to go. So so simple and absolutely effective. Yes, yes, I can train my Boston Terrier, even though he's now 9 years old, this clicker is easily heard by him and he rushes over in case there is a treat being offered... he doesn't wait for commands though as he's impatient and sits, lays down, rolls over.. covering all the bases to make sure he gets that treat and in short order. Yes, I also train my chickens... three clicks means some tomatoes are about to fly out the kitchen window and they come running! Ok, maybe that's just a dinner bell substitute. But the sound carries across the yard and is distinctive. You get the picture, the clicker is loud and consistent, lightweight, with pretty good sound projection. All weather capable, nothing to rust. Bright colors so you can find it quickly in your camera bag or animal trainer kit. OH! Are you a scuba diver, or snorkel diver, do you sit in the boat while others explore the depths? YES, this clicker works underwater and is easily heard more than a hundred yards away. Divers can click to get each other's attention, or a surface monitor can reach into the water and generate the signal for all divers and snorkelers to return to the boat, or warn of a surface hazard. WORKS UNDERWATER. I like it and will be using it each and every day. Probably a good idea to get two in case it goes missing, pretty sure my dog would chew it apart if he got ahold of it. I recommend this clicker without hesitation.. know someone who makes videos and needs to sync their audio? You'll be their new hero if you get one of these for them.

Update October 9, 2025. I contacted Star Mark because I knew there was something wrong with these clickers and they very kindly sent me three new ones which click perfectly so obviously just a bad batch. Everybody was very helpful. I knew I loved Star Mark products just had a nasty experience with a bad batch. New clickers work perfectly pushed down perfect click that was the problem with the prior three you had to wrestle the click down and it didn’t really make a noise. Very happy with my new clickers. I have used these clickers before and they worked great. Good solid sound and easy to press. I just purchased three so that I could have them at each door to call our new dog who I trained on the star Mark clicker that I had from a few years ago. The three clickers that I purchased don’t click very well. Don’t make a very good sound and you really have to press to get the clicker to make the sound all three are a disappointment. I still have one clicker from a couple of years ago and I’m using that one almost exclusively the three that I purchased look exactly the same, but don’t work nearly as well. Very disappointed in whatever they’ve done to them because they don’t work like they used to.

First of all, this is a perfectly nice, sturdy clicker that does exactly as it says it will. I like the way it fits into my hand and I like the sound it makes. I was able to attach a wrist coil to it and use it while out on walks. It really is a sturdy little clicker. The only things preventing me from giving this one a five star review are first that sometimes i like to put the clicker in my pocket and hit it while training, to keep a hand free. It doesn't seem to work with this clicker. My absolute favorite clickers (and the reason why my friends think I am nuts, I mean, I can say that with no irony, that I have a favorite clicker) are the Karen Pryor i clickers. They are a little more delicate, but are also easier to hit the button in my pocket. My other issue with this clicker is that the package states that the clicker is compatible with StarMark collar light and prong collar. Not that a clicker and a collar light (for visibility) are incompatible, but they also have nothing to do with each other. And in no universe is a clicker and a prong collar compatible. I know this, it just worries me that people with less training experience may not know. Otherwise, it is a perfectly nice product.

I have 2 older (15, 8yos) beagles. And was just talked into 2 puppies 6 weeks old (they are mutts), yes 2! Crazy! Luckily my mom use to train dogs professionally, and she taught me how too. I was having no problems training them, but thought this might be easier with the 4 of them. It is! The puppies soon learned the clicker means treats so get over there fast. Which is mainly what I wanted. Now at 9 weeks, people can not believe they are so well trained and still babies. Potty trained (well except for when scared out of their skin, or way over excited), heal, sit, come, down, shake, go, no, bed, all of them they do just about 90% of the time without he clicker anymore, 100% with the clicker. Isis will do high five, Loki looks at you like your crazy, so not sure he will learn that one, some just don't do tricks. Loki has learned not to get on the couch (helps he can't get up there without help), but Isis, even though she is the same size as her brother she has figured out how to get up there, and often does. The sitting and waiting to go through doors, about 70%, but that's ok cause they are puppies and need outside fast so they don't have accidents, and I would rather them rush, than wait and have an accident, so we are still working on that one. The clicker just made everything go so much faster and smoother. The longest part was training them with their names, and me figuring out how to charge the clicker. Now I say their name, the command and click, and it's done. We are working on some other commands now, leave it, fetch, roll over, things like that, they also know when food is on a plate they can not touch it, but if it's on the floor fair game, oh and no begging, cause that drives me crazy, no sitting and staring at me across the room while I eat either! (One of my older ones do that, it drives me nuts, and no matter what I teach him grr). If we are up the table in the kitchen they have to leave the room. I need to figure out how to use the clicker as a reinforcement when they pass a barking dog on their walks because they kind of panic a little, they are getting better as they get older, but still. Any ideas would be welcome. I learned with the older ones they really don't need to learn dig, hunt, and all that other stuff mom taught the police dogs, but if they do, I know it will be easier for me to do with this. I have ordered more so we can have one each, and one by all three of the doors to go outside.

I have a rescue dog, who at 6 had not had any training or socialization for that matter. I'm not always as consistent with my words and voice tone as I'd like to let him know he's doing the right thing, so clicker training seemed the perfect option for me. Unfortunately all I've managed to do is scare him it's so loud. A reviewer suggested taking it apart and putting some paper towel padding in there to lower the volume at first. Tried that, several ways, but it either stopped it from clicking or didn't muffle the sound. A second reviewer suffgested wrapping some duck tape around it to muffle the holes the sound comes out of, again didn't help. Yet a third reviewer suggested holding it backwards, so the button was toward the palm to muffle the sound, yet I was not able to make the button click that way (it's not a hair trigger button) it just dug into the fleshy part of my palm below my thumb, it's too big to hold any other way. Now I can see how the loud sound CAN be useful, if you are doing training farther away (like agility) where the dog is moving and making his own noise, he'd be able to hear this well. It would work perfect for that. But for a starting clicker used up close, it was a no go for me. Which is disappointing to me as the size is perfect to hold, button is easy to push, yet located so it won't have accidental pocket clicking. Really like the design and keeping it in the hopes some day my dog will be doing training at a longer distance and I can try it again. I guess my next step is to try another style, that I've heard has the problem of pocket clicking when you move, but is quieter. So I rated it 3 stars because it's a good size and may be perfect for those who want a louder sound. But could not rate it any higher as it's not a beginner dog confidence builder.

I recently became interested in clicker training, when I saw how quickly my dog responded to vocal command training. Before spending too much money, I wanted to purchase a cheap clicker to give it a try! DESIGN/FUNCTION Let's talk about how well this is designed. It is quite small, fits in your pocket and can easily be placed on a wristlet for easy access. I can't agree with some reviewers who found the clicker too loud. My pup has the attention of ...well a puppy, so I needed it to be loud enough to break her concentration on whatever treat I may or may not have in my hand, this one does the job quite nicely. BUILD/QUALITY This clicker is made of good hard plastic, and the clicking mechanism always works and doesn't seem to be cheap. I have dropped this several times while trying to handle leash and treats, and each time there is not a scratch on it. I honestly wasn't expecting much for the fiver I spent on it, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised! WHY 5 STARS? - Cheaply priced (+) - Excellently made (+) - God strong clicking sound! (+) OVERALL Overall? EXCELLENT. As I mentioned, I wanted to buy a cheap clicker before investing a little more in a better one, but after seeing how well this is made and how solidly it performs, I can honestly say that I won't be looking any more! Highly recommended for those who want to take training to the next level!

I have purchased my fair share of different clickers even before I actually had my puppy. The feel and sound of the clicker matters as far as ease of use. You need the clicker to be a almost involuntary action on your part and for that to happen you need to be comfortable with the clicker. Clicker training is all about the timing of the click. You are the operator of the clicker have to be able to hold it, use it, while you are doing other things as well. You will be watching your dog very closely, you will be getting treats ready to present and you will be holding the clicker in one of your hands. So for it all to come together correctly you have to feel comfortable with the size, the way it clicks and the amount of noise it makes. You might be thinking I am crazy to think it matters this much? If you want clicker training to work you have to be able to click exactly when you get the behavior you are looking for not 3 seconds after as you fumble around and find the clicker and then hit it. So my point is it should fit in your hand easily, not take too much pressure to click. I have used at least 5 different types of clickers out there and I have found that this one is the right shape, size, noise level, etc to work well with all the other things you are doing while you are clicking. I highly recommend buying at least 5. esp. if you are not the only person working with training your dog. Everyone should have their own clicker, and you will lose some on walks etc.. It is always good to have a backup clicker. The dog really does learn to idenify that exact sound. When I am out with my dog and he is off leash all I have to do is click 1x and he comes running.

El clicker está muy bien hecho. Viene con un instructivo sobre cómo entrenar al perro con la ayuda del artefacto. Yo terminé no usándolo porque una de mis perras ya es mayor y se asustaba con el sonido, pero para un cachorro he escuchado que es muy práctico. Las 5 estrellas son más que nada por la construcción. Los materiales son buenos y el sonido es fuerte y nunca falla.

Have used many box-type clickers over the years and this one is the absolute best!! It sits comfortably in the hand and is very easy to use. Right now I am using this on my horse who is a recent rescue and hasn't been treated the best up to now. With the clicker being used appropriately with a reward, he has been able to participate and learn his rehabilitation exercises during ground work at liberty (off leash). Not bad for a tired 16 yo horse who has been over raced. It has also helped to build a bond between us and we now have a mutual trust that no one can take away.
