Be Here Now : DASS RAM: desertcart.in: Books Review: A Thought-Provoking, Soul-Touching Read - The book is heavy — it really makes you think. At times it can feel overstimulating, and at other times it gives you exactly the answer you were looking for… very similar to a spiritual journey. The stories with Baba are a must-read in this book, and the photos of Baba are absolutely beautiful. Review: Life Changing Book - It is a very different kind of book, if you have no idea about it, then it will just go beyond your wildest expectations in a very positive manner. It is written in a weird fashion, but if you keep an open mind and really make it through to the end of this, it will become one of the most profound books you have ever read.

So Earthy, So very beautiful.
So very ordinary, but so VERY EARTHY. I have never seen or experienced such a wonderful book, to the eyes this nothing to catch, but still, there is something intriguing about the book, & I MEAN JUST ABOUT THE BOOK. As about the content, It's A TREASURE MAP that is Coded in a Secret language, only the WORTHY will Decipher it. Its a Paradox- Its not for Everyone, but it IS for EVERYONE, Its like a Seed that will sprout when YOUR GROUND IS READY. Have one IF YOU ARE A SEED. God Bless ALL.

Talks about journey, truth and process in that order!!
Amazing book!! In this book he talks about his jourey as a Psychology professor at Harvard, where he was experimenting with psychedellics like LSD and realised that something was missing, even the high of LSD was not able to show him the true nature of human mind and so in search for all the answers regarding the mind and body and the mechanics of the human intellect, he travels to east where he meets Maharaj-ji(Neem karoli baba) and becomes his disciple and then he finally gets to know the mechanics of life and mind which his psychology books were never able to reveal, this is the first part of the book. In the second part, he talks about the spiritual knowledge that he got during his time as a disciple in Baba's ashram. I think this is the most gripping yet most difficuilt part of the book. It is quite difficuilt to understand but at the same time it is quite to the point, the only problem being I think that this part was written while he was high with LSD and that is why you see all the text written is haphazard and also at times it is not that subtle. In the last part, he talks about the process to follow to get to know the truth. All in all it is a great book!!

Great read Highly recommended
By now I have read accounts of many a western people who came to India in tbe 60s and 70s in search of the miraculous...like all those book this book has precious wisdom to offer... The book has three parts...the first part is authors journey in amerika amd india...second part is doodles which have lot of insights to offer for a seeker on path...and the third path explains ashtanga yoga and other things telated to path of enlightenment... The author has craftly weaved concepts from hinduism buddhusm and christianity altough for the most part its about hinduism... This book is a great read...but according to my opinion it is not for the begineer, its for someone in intermediate stage...lot of things will just make no sense for some one whi has just recently stumbled upon spirituality...

Over rated book
I have now completed reading the book. While some pages are good, most of them appeared too basic. The book appears over emphasis on addiction and to me it looks like the author is comparing a very high spiritual life to a mean intoxicated life. Many of the pages have drawings, which I thought is a nice idea. However, few pages where drawn in black and text was also in black, making it not readable at all. Also, some of the texts are appearing in the binded place, making it impossible to read. I bought it because somewhere I read Steve Jobs got inspired by it. I regret the decision, but OK. I will keep it for the good things - nice idea of pictorial representation and good for beginners.

I can't believe it took me this long to read this book, especially considering its similarity with the majority of books I read. I was completely blown away by how mind-bending and honest the book appears to me. "Be Here Now" includes a brief autobiographical introduction from Ram Dass (formerly known as Richard Alpert), a zen koan-like middle passage full of different ways to see reality, a concluding section detailing various methods that one can undertake in his or her spiritual journey, a glossary of terms, and an amazing list of books to read at the end. The autobiographical section did not impress me as much as I had originally hoped, but that was mainly because I was looking forward to reading the middle passage, with its inspiring artwork and psychedelic calligraphy. I zoomed through the introduction, but I consider it to be a very important section of the book because it really sets the tone and helps the reader to understand how Ram Dass became the person who he was when he wrote the book. The middle section blew my mind. I don't know what else to say about it. It reminds me of Lao Tzu's "Tao Te Ching" in some way - full of wisdom and a unique way at looking at reality. I couldn't help feeling like the words printed on the page were the truest things I had ever set my eyes upon. Honest in some way that I don't yet understand, but hope to one day. The third section, with its descriptions of various spiritual practice was at once both a great overview of things I have read about in the past and also an introduction to some new approaches that I may choose to incorporate on my own spiritual journey. This section in particular was really motivating for me and reinvigorates my desire to continue on the path I have already begun. The glossary of terms does an effective job at explaining the foreign words and concepts that are found throughout the book. It would be extremely beneficial to anyone (including myself) that is not familiar with Sanskrit or traditionally Eastern religious ideas and ways of expressing them. By far the best part of this book is the section of three lists of other books to read. They are: 1. Books To Hang Out With 2. Books To Visit With Now & Then 3. Books It's Useful To Have Met I plan on building a larger portion of my To-Read list out of the books that are contained on these lists, and have great faith that they will be eye-opening and helpful on my journey. "Be Here Now" is without a doubt one of the most impactful and uplifting books I have ever read. Although I found myself confused while reading the majority of the book, I do believe that in time I will come to understand more and more. I would easily recommend this book to everyone I know, and everyone you know too.
