    Perform as Advertised

First a little background on me. I am in my early 40s and have been playing competitive basketball since childhood (including Varsity in HS). When I was 31 I had a diagnosed level 3 sprain on my left ankle. I was not able to play basketball for over a year. I have since had another level 3 sprain and probably 10+ additional level 1 and 2 left ankle sprains since that time (both playing basketball and from simply walking on uneven surfaces) due to what my doctor calls my permanently weakened ankle ligaments from that first level 3 sprain. I have also had a number of more minor sprains of my right ankle playing basketball as well.In order to play basketball I have to where a level 1 brace on my right ankle and a level 3 brace on my left ankle (I currently use an Active Ankle T2 brace). I had never resprained my ankle wearing the T2, but it is quite a bulky brace and not very comfortable and definitely inhibits the speed of my footwork. Well a few weeks ago I actually sprained my ankle while wearing the T2. This lead me on a mission to find something else and that is when I discovered EKTIOs. After doing alot of research on them I decided to give them a try. I was going to wait for their new Breakway model, but after finding these Post-Ups at such a great price, I decided to try them first. I just finished playing my first game in them, so the following is my initial impression on them.Right out of the box I have the same complaint with them that I have of ALL new basketball shoes made from synthetic material...they are VERY stiff. The up side to that is unlike leather, once broken in the synthetics tend to continue their supportiveness while leather shoes break-in too much (particularly high tops) and their level of support drops significantly. I have read about how complicated they are to put on, so I read the directions on how to put them on and gave it a shot. It's more complicated than a regular basketball shoe, but not that bad, certainly no worse than putting my brace and regular shoe on. I wore them around my house last night trying to break them in a bit before I used them today. After a 1/2 hour or so of walking around in them the uber stiffness had subsided. At this point I did a few quick side to side cutting movements on our hardwood floors to simulate pressure on my ankles while playing defense. In basketball hi-tops without a brace, there is a 90% chance this would have rolled my left ankle, but it felt great. At this point I was impressed. The shoes did not impede any normal movement, they just felt more secure around my ankles.I went to play in them for the first time today. I like to wear two pair of athletic socks, but with both pair of socks on, the shoes were too tight. I removed a pair of socks and tried again and they went on fine. Again, they were initially stiff, but 5 minutes into the game it was unnoticeable. I played two games and the shoes allowed freedom of movement with my feet that I have not had in 10 years using braces, but my ankles felt extremely supported. I don't know how to describe it, they just feel more supported than with the brace, but without the limited mobility. The one issue I did have was some very slight chaffing on the outside of both ankles, but it's nothing worse than I've experienced with all other brand new basketball shoes (in fact not as bad as most), but I expect it will go away as they break-in. I'm also going to try slightly thicker socks.I will continue to update this review as I get more use with them, but my initial impression is fantastic.

Great looking shoe, comfortable, and at a great price.

*by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2013*

I was hesitant on purchasing this shoe at first, but decided to give it a try. And I am glad that I did. It is one of the most comfortable basketball shoe i have every purchased. I purchased one size larger than my normal shoe size, and it feels fine. I wear thick tube socks, so my guess on this size was the right on for me. My guess is that sock thickness matters in making a shoe size difference. I highly recommend this shoe. Because it feels very comfortable, I wear it everyday to school. I plan on purchasing another pair of these shoes soon, before they run out or increase the price.

    Great for Wide Feet

*by V***L on Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2016*

I bought these shoes and the Ektio Men's The Alexio for my husband who has trouble finding shoes for his wide feet - he was thrilled with both of these pairs of shoes, they fit comfortably and has solid support. For what it's worth, he'd like me to buy a couple more pairs to have in case they are hard to find when he needs new shoes.
