When you initially turn this flashlight on, does this turn on in high output mode or low output mode?

On ALL colors except COYOTE of the Microstream USB Flashlight , the first press results in low output mode, and the second press results in high output mode. On the COYOTE color Microstream USB Flashlight, the first press results in high output mode, and the second press results in low output mode. Is it Intrinsically safe?

Class 1 Div 1, intrinsically safe, lights are marketed as such. That way the company can place a surcharge on the light. Your answer is no

will this light work with a standard battery if needed ?

No 1.5v will work in a pinch you can change the OEM battery out to a TrustFire TR10440 but the onboard usb charger won't charge it.

Can you use a standard alkaline AAA battery in a pinch?

No a standard aaa is only 1.5 volts these use lithium ion cells that are 3.7 volts (4.2 max)
