Grille covers it anyway once painted, and you'll need to do that as they are a kind of off-white old IBM cream colour. Be nice if the just produced them in plain neutral white but easy enough to spray paint 👍 Review: Item shipped quickly, was received in great shape. Installation is a snap and instructions are easy to follow. For those a little uneasy about cutting holes in your walls to mount speakers, don't worry. This was my first time installing in-wall speakers. If you are at least marginally handy, have the basic tools needed, and use the provided template it will look like it was professionally installed. The speakers sound great. I power them with a Pioneer VSX-1020 and the sound is great. You will likely need a subwoofer as these do not provide enough bass to fill a room by themselves. I added the Polk Audio PSW505 and it provides excellent bass. The only negative I have is that the speaker coverings/grates are a little flimsy. They are magnetic and sit flush to the wall which gives a very clean look, but mine were slightly bowed at the bottom and are therefore not completely flush with wall. If I worked at it, I could probably bend them a little to make them flush. The cutout dimensions would need to be 19-3/16" H x 7-1/4" W and the mounting depth is 3-1/4" using a 1/2" drywall. **Q: Thinking of using this for the front left and right. What would be the best center speaker that will match the timbre? In wall or bookshelf.** A: I don't think you will tell any difference. I use the center A6 and it sounds great. I would get the matching in wall center. The bookshelf type are large. FYI. Book shelves so have more bass. Not that you need that from a center. My center is very large and has lots of low end. It needs to be turned down to match my in wall speakers. **Q: Does this come with a back box enclosure ?** A: It does not. In typical installations, the wall you mount it in serves as the acoustic enclosure. **Q: I need shallow speakers to replace what i have. Cant find anything appropriate. If i wanted to install these in a custom box what would be the size?** A: I spoke to a rep from Polk and they recommend building a custom cabinet that's 1.5 cubic feet. So, you're looking at a pretty big box. Though you could probably fudge the numbers a bit on the smaller end and it won't drastically impact the sound as long as you don't go too small. You may end up losing out on some bass, but a sub will help. For the price the performance was crap - and if I’m honest the price of the 265 for just 1speaker is shocking….. but the the sound and performance is good , I only brought this speaker as I don’t have room for a book shelf speaker directly behind my listing position and needed a in wall …. Otherwise I wouldn’t pay that price, but the 265 delivers ….
