Should I build a backbox for these speakers? I have open tile ceilings.

The CDT-3650-C II are designed to not need an enclosure around the back of the speaker. In some cases, having an enclosure can deteriorate the sound quality.

What backing do you recommend if installed under attic ? will some simple mdf board placed on top do the job?

I built mine during construction and yes, MDF works well. I built a box that went from rafter to rafter out of inexpensive oak plywood and it has worked very well. Like I’ve told others, don’t merely place it under insulation as I don’t believe it provides an adequate speaker box. Essentially your attic becomes the box in that scenario.

Is this a Dolby Atmos speaker ?

It was not designed as a Dolby Atmos speaker, but it would work fine as a height speaker in a Dolby Atmos system, especially when used with other Klipsch Reference Premier speakers.
