the very first day it arrived I discovered one of the snaps inside was broken. is this a common occurrence for this product?

It can happen sometimes. When I bought my Glow 2'x3' softbox, one of the snaps kept coming undone from the start. After a while I got pretty annoyed and used a safety pin to hold it in place. I don't know why Glow insists on using these damn snaps and are not using velcro yet, which is MUCH more reliable.

28" or 38" parabolic softbox? That is the question. Whatever 'tis preferable for outdoor portraiture and why? Thanks!

28 is just fine. 38 is huge and the softbox is 2 feet long in length. I use mine for more portraits outdoor etc

Perfect Lighting

This thing is amazing, for the price, wow. I got the 28”deep para Its so versatile & compact in size.In addition it has two diffusion panels, grid, and even a beauty dish attachment giving you the versatility of a soft box, beauty dish and a parabolic all in one. The price is unbelievable- especially considering how easy it is to collapse and set up. This is a must have.It’s a little heavy, so bring heavy duty stand, or even better a c stand.

excellent,, with one minor complaint

this softbox is very well made and very reasonably priced. it opens and closes easy and stores nice.i leave the diffusers and grid in place as i use them all the time.the one issue i have and one most others seem to have as well is the snaps holding the inner diffuser in place. man-o-man are these things hard to remove! i feel it's just a matter of time before something rips or tears.so, about 1/2 hr with a hot glue gun and some small velcro strips, i bypassed the snaps. the snaps are still there and will work but now i just use the small velcro tabs. problem solved!

Excellent Softbox

This is a really nice and easy to use softbox. It is very well built. The center of the umbrella that opens is easily placed on the shaft in the middle, so it is quite easy to open and all of the materials seem nicely durable. The light that it creates with my Godox AD200 is excellent. I am really glad that I purchased this item.

Good Stuff !

I am a professional photographer and with this budget friendly light modifier great photos can be created. The build quality is good and it is very sturdy and very easy to use. Setup takes little effort. The quality of light is wonderful through this light modifier. The days of paying big money for good light modifiers are behind us now. Don`t spend a ridiculous amount of money on a name brand light modifier when you can get this one for a fraction of the cost. I have been doing this for a very long time and let me assure you that there are alternatives out there that don`t cost a fortune and this is one of them. I highly recommend this.

Maybe worth it at this price (less than $60)

I honestly have to say that the weight of the modifier makes it practically unusable. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A HEAVY DUTY STAND AS WELL AS SANDBAGS. I've used this for about a year, while it looks cool and sets up quickly I'd only recommend for permanent setups in studios with high ceilings
