You will need to boil water separately in order to make an Americano, since the Moka makes very concentrated coffee, like espresso. But, it doesn't have crema on top like a proper espresso would. You also need a grinder that can make precisely the correct grind, like an adjustable hand grinder. A french press would probably be easier and simpler.
