Obviously, the door does not have a lock on it currently. Would this work well?** A: Yes, you can put a combination lock. This work very well. We have installed this in one of our closet and I love it. **Q: Considering this lock to put on a drawer in my closet so I can keep jewelry in it & lock it up when the cleaning lady comes. Would it work for this?** A: Probably not. The lock is designed to be used with a strike plate on a door jam. If there is no plate to insert the long part of the lock into it will not hold properly. The lock works by trapping the door between the strike plate and the lock itself, relying on the toothed metal strip to prevent the door from sliding back. Depending on the type of drawer that you have it could catch onto something else but if it is a nice piece of furniture (and wooden) it wouldn't be advisable. **Q: Will this secure a hotel door? I don't want my kids sleepwalking out at night.** A: It should. I works with most doors. There has to be enough of a gap between the edge of the door and the jam for the tang to slide into. This is not a problem with most doors. **Q: Will this work on a older door where the hole (do not know what it is called) is very small? The addalock does not work for me.** A: If you're referring to the hole where the door makes a click sound when you close it....I don't know what it's called either. If I am recalling correctly (bought this lock over 2 years ago) then, this lock might work if the hook might can go behind it against the backside of the door jamb. Also, it was on a hallway closet in a dorm room shared by 8 students. Does not work as described. Poorly designed. *by R***E on October 24, 2015* Do not purchase. I purchased this as an addiitonal lock to use in my hotel room while traveling to Europe. It does not work well to secure a door. The travel lock prevents the actual door lock from catching in the door jam - which means that if you use the travel lock you do not have two levels of protection. Instead, you are relying exclusively on the travel lock to keep your door shut - which is a problem because it does not fit snuggly against the door and allows and door to be pushed slightly open when in place. Also, it does not work at all to lock a drawer - despite its claims to do so. I tried it on every piece of furniture in my house and I could not get it to work with any of them. The minimal instructions that accompany it provide no tips as to how it could possibly work to lock a drawer. Thankfully, with Amazon I can return it and get a full refund since it simply does not work. If you want an additional door lock to use while traveling, look at Add-a-Lock (see picture), which is also sold on Amazon. I purchased Add-a-Lock at the same time I purchased the First Watch Travel Lock Deadbolt and I tested it on several doors in my house. The Add-A-Lock was quite sturdy and worked on several different door lock configurations. I have not yet tried it on a hotel room door but from the way it is designed, I anticipate that it should work well.
