Value for money

A friend recommended using a butane torch lighter to do soldering of larger gauge wire. Pictured is a test solder joint of 14 AVG multi-strand wire with shrink wrap applied. Also, outdoor wiring soldered using the same torch. I bought the torch lighters and a butane refill can (required as the torches do not come filled with butane) and performed a test solder joint using lead/tin eutectic solder and non-acidic flux. Within ten seconds the wire was heated enough to allow excellent reflow resulting in a well soldered solder connection. My 100W Weller soldering iron takes minutes to achieve the same result and is more cumbersome to use. The torch also heated shrink wrap effectively without scorching the insulation. I used the torch outside to solder wiring on my random wire HF antenna/ground system. It worked perfectly!

Upon delivery two of the four were broken and useless. Within a week, Flint went out on one and the other wouldn't shut off even when on the lowest flame setting. Had to literally blow it out each time and I consider that a safety concern so stopped using it. So cheaply made, would not buy again
