This is 3/4" Female Pipe Thread. You would need an adapter for 1"

How do the numbers on the nozzle inserts correspond to a approx. distance ?

The numbers are based on a flow rate. Based on pressure at the head and nozzle will determine distance. You can get a ref chart on the mnf web

does it come with the 3/4 to 1 nipple reducer?

No, there is not a reducer or supplemental adaptor included. The receiving part of the Rotor is a 3/4 inch female receptor. I purchased a 3/4 to 1/2 inch adaptor to attach them to ground stakes for an above ground system.
