I bought another brand that would not cut through the skin of green peppers.** A: Yes. I have cut apples, peppers, and all sorts of veggies and fruits! Evil hard boiled eggs but you have to press gently or it will smash them. This thing is awesome ! **Q: Why does the manual state the chopping blades are not suitable for tomatoes?** A: Because the blades on the mandolin qare non serrated blades. A non serrated knife does not cut tomatoes smooth, it will basically smush them! **Q: Does this machine also slice tomatoes, cucumbers etc.?** A: It slices about anything - except it turns tomatoes into mush when you chop them. **Q: Is it dish washer safe?** A: Yes, I put mine on the top rack of dishwaher and no problems.
