What surprised me is how much space you need, total length is probably just short of Little League Mound to Homeplate distance. It also takes a few minutes of practice to get the action just right. The padding on the handles probably fell off after a couple of hard hits but they really don't provide much protection against a well struck ball nor do they have anything to do with the operation of trainer. Storage is about as simple as possible, you just roll back up and put it in a drawer! As a bonus you do get an extra strap/rope for when the original finally gives way and it probably will... I like because the kids have to time their swing and keep an eye on the moving ball. I was going to get a "batting cage" type but this is imho, way better for more of a real live pitching experience rather than swinging at a stationary ball. Tips on the technique?** A: Make sure ropes aren't tangled.Then get some grease Vaseline will work also put some on the ropes then move ball through grease by hand next lay ropes on ground get a water hose and soak the ropes this makes it superfast. As for technique make you put tension on rope and pull apart really fast ball should be moving once pitched bring handles back together so ball returns to you. You will get a great shoulder workout. I have no complaints accept for the ball but the grease reduces the frictions and so far it has worked great it helped my twins start getting hits instead of striking out good luck hope this helps. **Q: Is this used for softball also or is there a different one?** A: I’d say yes because it’s a ball that is between baseball and softball size **Q: How long is this?** A: It’s about the length equivalent to home plate to the pitcher’s mound also comes with an extra rope. This hitting tool is very cool and the ball does return either on a hit or by throwing it back to the "pitcher". The only issue that I have with this item is the velcro strap. We tried strapping it to a basketball stand and it kept ripping off. However, the clip works very well to hold the end in place.
