The poster material is very thick and high quality for the price. The colors are vibrant and vary from country to country. The scratch layer on the map is not brittle and actually took some effort to scratch off which was also nice. I mounted my map on a 30" x 40" canvas using spray adhesive and it looks fantastic! It is fairly easy to scratch off. You do want to be extremely careful with the amount of pressure you use on it or you ca scratch off more than you intended. I let my 5 year old "help" and there is now a very noticeable white scratch in California. I have only visited 4 countries and a good portion of the United States. I hope to scratcn off more this year. The only negative for me was how rolled up it still is. It kept rolling back into its original shape while I scratched.
