Where do WE BEGIN. OKay, my review is based on my RENTAL using Amazon Prime, and... THANK G-D, I didn't buy this GARBAGE. Unless "Riddie" gets his act together over the course the rest of his career.... this is it for me as him as a CREDIBLE director. OMG, the actor selection, the writing, the directing was a JOKE! The HISTORICAL ACCURACY and the DIRECTION was an IN-YOUR-FACE disgrace! Why did ANYONE THINK this movie was remotely ENTERTAINING?! OH, yeah, the AI SFX garbage. You like those level year 2000 SHARKS in the pool? LMAO! The ACTING... D, Densel Washington was a HORRIBLE choice, he's always acts the same, and in this movie, he was BAD! The other 2 LEAD actors Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal were simply over matched by the subject matter and were "C" at best. The Roman ANTAGONISTS played by Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger had SEVERELY over the top dialog written for them. The movie as a whole was a thorough disgrace. I gave it 2 stars solely for the atmosphere and AI. I understand Rid Scott is still going through withdrawals over the suicide of his brother, but OMG, this movie is simply for him, GARBAGE and a lack of historical ACCURACY.

I just love this film. I actually can’t believe I’m saying this, but I prefer this film to the first one.

Gladiator is my favourite film of all time so Gladiator 2 had a lot to live up to and sadly failed. It is a good watch but falls short of the original in several areas in my opinion: Denzil Washington (I am a great DW fan) still had an American accent which detracted a bit. I felt the hero was not a match pyhsically to Russel Crowe. The dubbing was dreadful. Although the music copied and replicated the original the score was underwhelming. Having said that I still enjoyed the film.

Ah, Gladiator 2—the latest colossal, blood-soaked extravaganza from those frightfully enthusiastic fellows in Hollywood. And, wouldn’t you know it, there I am, splendidly draped in Roman armour, barking orders with all the authority of a senior civil servant who’s just found his tea slightly understeeped. It’s all rather a grand affair—dust, sweat, swords swinging about with the sort of reckless abandon one expects from people who clearly haven’t filled out the proper paperwork. Of course, there’s the usual parade of square-jawed heroes, strapping young chaps whose muscles have muscles, all gleaming in the sun like polished doorknobs. And naturally, I—well, rather splendidly played by the great Tim McInnerny (ahem)—strut about as one of the senior Romans, trying desperately to keep my head attached to my shoulders while everyone else is lopping limbs off left, right, and centre. Quite the balancing act, really. The film itself? Oh, marvellously shot. Dramatic battles, rousing speeches, the works. But one does feel that some of the chaps involved take it all rather too seriously—honestly, a good chuckle wouldn’t have gone amiss. All told, it’s an absolute riot of chaos, heroism, and absurdly large swords. And frankly, I rather enjoyed it, though I do believe the Romans could benefit from a little more bureaucracy and a touch less stabbing. Four stars, I say—marvellous fun, though they could’ve thrown in a nice relaxing administrative meeting or two. Would’ve done wonders for everyone’s stress levels.
