We were pleasantly pleased by our patio umbrella with the night time enhancement of LED lights.Installation time was about one hour plus because you need to unwind and straighten all nine “spokes” of the solar-powered light string and align them along each of the umbrella ribs. The entire array needs be fed in through the peak vent, leaving the solar panel/batteries on the outside of the umbrella to recharge the batteries daily. We attached the solar panel with Velcro “rug” hand-stitched to the umbrella and self-adhesive Velcro “hook” stuck to the back of the solar panel.The length of each LED string is about 48”, perfect for a 10 foot diameter umbrella. We used brown colored zip-ties to hold each line to its brown rib (see photos). We used 3 zip-ties per rib, top; middle and bottom (outer edge) of the rib. We wound the 9th string around the center post and zip-tied it top and bottom. The setup collapses easily when you bring the umbrella down. The setup is not really noticeable during the daytime when the umbrella is up and lights are off.The 4 light intensity settings range from 25% to 100%. There are a variety of strobing and blinking settings too. We found the remote must be held closely to the solar panel (underside of the umbrella) to set our preferred illumination. We included photos of the 25% and 100% in darkness for comparison.It yields a pleasant level of nighttime illumination, probably the equivalent of a 25 watt incandescent bulb or a well lit candle light dinner. While the remote allows for changing the brightness, the lights are actually less bright than I expected, so I only use them at their brightest. They are really only for "ambiance" - it's not like you'd be able to read outside in the dark using them. The remote also only seems to work if I'm very close (within a couple of feet) to the battery pack so I can't turn the lights on from inside the house. But all in all, they were surprisingly inexpensive and I'm happy with this purchase. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars They work... mostly, with some caveats *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2020* Bought these for my friend's retail storefront, to have some subtle lighting around the windows. Originally we thought about placing them outside, but there would be some issues with discreetly positioning the solar panel, so we settled for inside. The building has a second, smaller set of windows above the main ones (which are covered by an awning), where it's possible to mount the solar panel, and it receives as much direct sunlight there as anywhere else.At first glance, the lights work as advertised. Give the battery time to charge, and then you can cover the solar panel and see them come on. However, we have noticed glitches in the control software, it doesn't always remember the last setting it was on, under certain conditions (low battery?), and also it doesn't properly change modes under similar conditions.We discovered by trial and error that the solar panel was partly blocked, leading to weak charging, the lights would only come on for ~5 minutes. After fixing that, they run all night. So make sure to place the panel *fully* in direct sunlight, it makes that much difference.The bigger issue is the weakness of the remote's signal. You literally have to be within inches of the solar panel/control box for it to work, which my friend being not particularly tall, and the box being up near the ceiling, makes it virtually useless. I don't see why something like a 6ft range is too much to ask.I wish we could run the lights on demand, even during the daytime, because there are times when due to storms/clouds, the shop windows appear dark, even though it's not dark enough to active the lights. Similarly if other indoor lighting is on (say, halogen track lights), it's bright enough to fool the solar panel into thinking it's still day. So it sits there useless with a charged battery, and the windows are left dark while the store is open into the evening.Unfortunately, it's all automatic, you would have to physically cover the solar panel with something to fool the device. We've done that, but it's silly. You should be able to manually control it, even in the daylight, or better yet, perhaps set a brightness threshold for when the lights should turn on/off. That's a recommendation to the manufacturer for the next "upgrade".But hey, these are cheap lights, we got roughly what we expected. They look pretty good when they're on.
