Works with Windows 8
There is a 1 star review saying this does not work with Windows 8. I just received this drive a couple days ago and was able to install the device, install the software, burn a couple dvd's and light-scribe a few discs. Only issue I had was I didn't plug in the micro usb connector into the back of the drive tight enough. Its a pretty snug connection. But after that it has been working just fine. Runs like most typical dvd drive where you get that "whine" sound from a high speed fan. Seems solid. My asus drive I just bought is being sent back mainly because I need two light-scribe dvd drives, which that one doesn't do, and also because they're almost identical in price. So for a couple extra bucks I'm getting light-scribe and a drive that runs just as good as the asus. Also when reading a couple dvd's the lg seems a bit faster than the asus. Could just be the dvd's that I was reading at the time but ti's worth noting. Only downside is the lg is a little bit louder but nothing above average. And also it does come with the dual usb connector along with a dedicated single power usb connector. So you can power it from two usb ports. Or you can plug in one of the usb ports from the dual usb cord into your computer, for the data, and then use the single usb power only cord and plug it into a wall outlet usb adapter so you have an extra usb port on your computer. Works for me since I have 3 usb port on my laptop and can use two of these at the same time. If you're confused leave a comment and I will try to explain better.

Buy this Product!
One of my best buys of the year. I have been an advocate of LightScribe labeling since HP came out with it, and was pretty bummed when they just threw it in the trash months ago. There is, however, a new movement to put it back in place that is going on in Great Britain. The Slim LightScribe burner is small but powerful. Although not quick, it burns a label in reasonable time and it is always a quality job that will last as long as the CD does.Shipment was quick and the product was well packaged. The price was a real bargain for something that is so hard to find.

Bit bulkier than expected
Nice drive - works well - no problems. Stylish. Just a little bulkier than I expected.

Disappointing if your objective is LightScribing
The drive comes with no software for using the LightScribe feature -- you have to go on-line to other sources to find it. Not only that, it took three tries for the drive's setup program to "take" -- the first two times, the CD just spun inside the drive for several minutes on end, with no screen display indicating what was going on. And there were zero instructions included for finding and installing required software.Once I found and downloaded the proper sets of software (driver and labeling editor... thank you, Google search), the drive seemed to do its Light Scribe tasks properly. As others have mentioned though, you have to pretty much run everything through twice in order to get enough contrast on the disk label.

Great little drive!
So far I'm loving this little drive! I got it very quickly and way before the estimated delivery date. It came with everything it was supposed to, including the software. It plugged right in to my computer and showed up in "My Computer" even without the software. It does use lightscribe but you can go to download.com and search for lightscribe software and download the latest versions of lightscribe. l've burned one CD with this so far and used the lightscribe function and I had no errors or problems. It worked like a charm! You do need to have available, two usb ports...one for the power and one to hook up to your computer which is kind of strange but since I have a large hub, I had plenty of ports available. I am using Windows 7 64-bit system and so far so good!

Could not get it repaired
I choose this rating because the unit worked for only five months. After that I couldn't get Amazon, or the supplier Storagedriveoutlet, or the manufacturer LG Electronics to make good on the 1 year warranty. For five months it worked. Now it is trash and I'm out $60 plus. Will not purchase from any of these businesses again.

Two Stars
I had problems getting computerto recognize it as lightscribe device. LightScribe was the reason I bought it. I bought an usb/ac adapter(about $2). For power it uses an usb to usb cord. My usb wasn't providing enough power. Once I hooked up the usb/ac adapter my computer recognized it and I have been burning with it.I knocked off 1 star for the headaches of getting it to work. I knocked off another star for slow burn speeds on both media and the images.

A Perfect Netbook Companion
The LG Electronics GP08LU10 8x is a slim, lightweight DVD+/-RW external drive that does it all without putting a strain on the budget. This device can be USB powered or powered by wall plug in; both connection types come with the unit. The LightScribe technology this unit offers requires special "lightscribe ready" CD/DVD media but the results are much more professional looking than the press-on labels. Alternately you can use standard media and press on labels but why would you want to?With its' small footprint and light weight this is a perfect companion to your lightweight Netbook.
