After leading The Ides of March ("Vehicle") and recording a solo album for Epic in 1976 (whose liner notes termed him "a survivor," thus inspiring the band name), vocalistguitarist-keyboardist Jim Peterik formed Survivor in 1978 along with guitarist Frankie Sullivan. After recording a couple of moderately successful albums for the Scotti Brothers label, the band struck gold when Sly Stallone tapped them to record the theme song for Rocky III. "Eye of the Tiger" went to #1, took the album of the same name to #2, and cemented Survivor's place in rock history. Now, Real Gone Music is proud to present the most comprehensive collection ever devoted to this Windy City legend, a 2-CD set offering 35 tracks taken from the peak 1978-1988 years, featuring key tracks from both the Dave Bickler and Jimi Jamison lead vocalist eras. All but two of the band's hits are here, including such indelible tracks as, of course, "Eye of the Tiger," "Poor Man's Son," "American Heartbeat," "I Can't Hold Back," "High on You," "The Search Is Over," "Burning Heart" (from Rocky IV), "Is This Love," and more. Good Basic Rock and Roll
I have "Eye of the Tiger" and "Vital Signs" on vinyl, betraying my age, so I'm familiar with Survivor. They are kind of a 70's band making music in the 80's, and while there is nothing terribly distinctive or innovative about their sound, their tunes are catchy. I think that all of Survivor's best is captured in this two CD set, and I was able to hear Survivor songs before "Eye of the Tiger" and after "Vital Signs", which is nice. I was disappointed that there was almost nothing written about Jimi Jamison in the liner notes. To me, Jimi was a better lead vocalist than Dave Bickler and Jimi helped write some of the songs. Songs like "Eye of the Tiger" and "High on You" will live on classic rock stations forever, but this CD shows that there is plenty more to like. Interestingly, because the band was not terribly trendy sounding, their songs can withstand the test of time. As other people have stated, if you like REO Speedwagon and Journey, you will probably like Survivor.

We Love Survivor...and Not Just Eye of the Tiger
I bought this 2-CD set for my spouse on her birthday. We've been obsessing on Survivor after meeting keyboard player and song writer Jim Peterik. It's great to see how much the group progressed from their start to the post-Eye of the Tiger era. You're always amazed when you buy a DC like this about how many great songs a band like this put out and songs you knew but didn't realize were theirs. This was a fun purchase.

I have several different compilation cds from Survivor,the Ultimate Survivor was a great cd,but this new cd blows it away,I love it! I highly recommend this cd if you like Survivor or good old 80's rock n roll,great buy.

A fantastic collection, buy this and discover there was more to survivor than Eye of the tiger and Burning heart, though both are classic tracks.

Cd survivor collection
Ho ricevuto l'oggetto in ritardo rispetto alla data prestabilita, ma passabile in quanto è un periodo di molte festività. Non ho gradito tanto il fatto che il porta cd fosse rotto ( uno spigolo completamente frantumato). Visti i tempi di consegna ed essendo questo oggetto un regalo, ho provveduto a comprare un porta cd nuovo sostitutivo. Sui cd tutto ok.
