I just did an M8 1.25 thread on two parts. I cut the OD to size and then started threading passes. When I'd moved the cross slide in 1.25mm, I measured thread thread with the .029" wires. Surprisingly, the measurement indicated I was short of the proper dept by .26mm. At 1.5 mm in, the nut was still too tight. But at 1.51 in, the nut screwed on well.
