LUMIX ZS99 Point and Shoot Camera, Digital Camera Compact with 30x Optical Zoom (24-720mm), 4K Video/Photo, Great for Travel and Concerts, Black

Have had this for 5 months or so but mainly used for concerts & events not daily I was looking for a compact camera with long-range zoom for concerts and sports, that will capture good quality video from both close seats and from higher or nosebleed seats and this totally delivers. Over time, it's actually cheaper than buying floor seats lol Why I Chose It For this specific use, there’s really nothing else like it No phone camera, not even high-end or Chinese global models like the: Oppo X8 Ultra Vivo X200 Xiaomi 15 Ultra (which are largely praised for their camera capabilities - mostly photo, not so much video) can match this compact camera's video zoom. Those 3 are super expensive (>$1000) and don’t come close. Phones rely heavily on multiple lenses and AI after 5x zoom. This gives you a 30x optical zoom from one lens Galaxy s25 ultra has a 5x optical zoom and the iPhone 16 pro max is 10x zoom. Even if Im slightly wrong it still doesnt come close..thats my whole point The other camera I considered... FZ80D That was a chonky boy and not inconspicuous enough for me, I didn’t want to risk being stopped before going into the venue. From the research I did: Probably the second closest option Has great stabilization Similar or bigger zoom range More affordable Still worthy of consideration if size isn't an issue. --- Pros of the ZS99 Doesn’t look pro-level, so most venues allow it (It meets the standard requirement of not having a detachable lens-always check the rules first, but you should be fine unless they’re being picky. You can also email some venues in advance and have their response for reference once the event rolls around just in case) Compact but sturdy, good grip Fits in men’s pockets (Maybe not women’s, those pockets are a scam... check bag size limits and toss it in a small bag if needed.) Intelligent Auto Mode is easy to use User Manual is super organized and easy to search through Stabilization is good Not as buttery as a phone’s “super steady” mode But that kind of adds to the live-event vibe Steady you can see what’s going on clearly but you can tell someone recorded it handheld, like you wouldn't assume a tripod was used Bonus tip: Turn on Continuous Autofocus (AFC) for sports / action / lots of dancing or movement → Game changer for me. I noticed the difference immediately Way better zoom than any phone, period. --- Cons Overheats during extended use. When it overheats it can stop recording Charging port rubbery thingy feels flimsy Be gentle, or just get a separate battery pack and external charger (Manual tells you what kind of battery to look for) Wrist strap is fine Especially if you’ve got a bag to store your camera between uses But if you’re planning to record for hours → consider a sturdier neck strap so you can just be ready to record without having it in your hand 24/7 Time limits: 4K caps at 15 minutes per clip 1080p (FHD) maxes out at 30 minutes Feels a bit short, but unless you're filming an entire Metallica concert, one song at a time should be fine (Personally, I think 1080p actually looks better than 4K at full zoom) Battery life My battery died right before the main event after ~6 hours. → Bring a power bank or spare battery --- Final Thoughts If you're a casual enjoyer, you'll likely walk away pretty satisfied. The main selling point is that 30x zoom. It’s unmatched in a compact package like this. If anything looks a bit grainy or overexposed in the moment, you can always clean it up later in editing. And when I refer to editing it’s literally just the built-in editing for saturation and highlights / shadows etc on your phone. Transfer is straightforward, and there are good YouTube videos on this camera. My favorite channel on it is Tech to Remember’s videos. Great help. That wraps up my casual review of the ZS99 for concerts and live events. I’ll update if anything else comes to mind. I took a ton of videos from a few events but I already transferred those to an SD card, so I might have to transfer a few back as an example.

This is my first ever camera and I love it so far! I’m still tinkering with the settings and getting familiar with it, but the pictures it takes are so pretty. It’s very portable, which is a plus! I will say that it’s not as clear in darkness (when you zoom in on the photo it’s blurry). The camera definitely works best in sunlight/natural lighting. I got some settings off of TikTok/Reddit. The app does kinda suck though. I haven’t been able to connect to it, so I just transfer thru an SD card reader. Battery life is great as well!

I took this camera on a cruise to Alaska and was very impressed. It was extremely easy to use, and the pictures turned out beautiful—clear, sharp, and vibrant. It captured the scenery perfectly, from glaciers to wildlife. The size is great for traveling, and it’s lightweight and convenient to carry around. I’m very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, easy-to-use camera!

I love LUMIX cameras. I own S5ii that I purchased during my trip to Japan. It’s an amazing camera. However, it is bulky and I needed something smaller to take on trips. Enter LUMIX ZS99. With 700mm lens… and priced well below its competitors. The good: Camera feels like a good quality built camera. I know it’s a cliche to say, but after using some of the other brands cameras that are made out of plastic and feel like a toy, this lumix feel like it was built with care and class. The controls are very intuitive. And if you are familiar with LUMIX cameras, this camera will be easy to use right out of the box. The lens is incredible and is arguably the best quality of this camera. If you are looking for a camera with a great zoom, look no further. Natural light outdoor pictures look great. Low light indoor pictures surprisingly look just as good. Which is amazing. The bad The battery life of the camera is not the greatest. Especially if you are using WiFi to transfer pictures to your phone or laptop, you might want to invest in second battery. There are absolutely zero accessories for this camera. Panasonic doesn’t even have the decency to offer a neck strap or a case. All accessories must be purchased from 3rd party. Now for the ugly Video quality is terrible. I get it. The camera’s sensor is the same as my iPhone, but at least my phone can make the video smooth. The video from ZS99 is very glitchy and almost unwatchable. Flash location - who in Panasonic’s R&D department approved this craziness?!?! The flash is located right below the shutter button. Which means, in order for the flash to be effective, you almost have to hold the camera in such awkward way that you risk dropping it. No hot shoe - it can’t be that hard to offer this camera with a hot shoe. Not even for external flash, because everyone knows Panasonic can’t make a descent flash, but even for the ability to attach an external microphone. Although, with such poor video recording ability, I don’t know if I even want that anymore. Image stabilization- forget that. This camera doesn’t have image stabilization like they claim. Definitely not for video. If you are shooting photo or video with the zoom all the way to 720mm, you better have the camera on a tripod or you will get some unfocused garbage. Overall, this is a good camera. The image quality is way above just about every other camera in its class. Of course if you are willing to shell out double or triple the money, you will get a bigger sensor and better quality images. But for the price, this is arguably the best camera on the market. For someone who travels a lot, this camera is a great companion.

Not a user friendly camera. After 3 months, the hinge does not hold up the viewer. Flimsy piece collapsed and does nothing now. Using a toothpick to lift it into one position, maybe can use tape or something to lift it higher, when needed. Not worth 50 dollars as it is now.

This is exactly what I was expecting. I wanted a vacation camera that had a long enough optical zoom to get the shots I want without having to do post processing that I never get around to and losing resolution on the cropped images. In today's world of great phone cameras, the zoom is really the only selling point for me. The images are of good enough quality, but not anywhere near as good as a good bridge camera. The image sensor has to be small to get this level of zoom in this small of a camera, I get that. What I have a bit more trouble with is that small sensor camera modules have come a long way in the last decade, but this is essentially the same sensor as I had in cameras back then. If they put in a modern sensor (even a cell phone sensor) and put a good lens on it, I think the images would be much better. Of course, phones also do a lot of processing to the images that a serious photographer does not want, but no serious photographer is going to use a camera like this so add all the processing tricks to get more out of the images. Basically, a good phone camera with a good zoom lens is all I wanted out of this. The market for point and shoot cameras has shrunk because the average person is just as happy with the quality of the shots their phone can take. For me the zoom is enough of a feature to buy and carry this camera, but I do find it hard to believe it can't do things my phone camera has done extremely well for many years. The low light performance for example is terrible compared to phones. I would have no problem if there was a way to turn off the processing for those that want a more pure image, but I think the market for a camera like this wants to just point, shoot, and get images that look as good as a modern phone. I am disappointed that I can't get a product that is more a phone camera with a long optical zoom. I would be happy if it was in my phone as a periscope camera, so a point and shoot camera should have no problem reaching that threshold. Either I am missing something, or all of the manufacturers in this market are still trying to make a smaller version of a big camera instead of a more capable version of a phone camera. The marked has changed, make products for what the market is today. With all of that being said, I knew exactly what I was buying, and I am very happy with the camera based on my expectations. It does everything it claims to do, and the quality is good enough for my needs. I rate products based on reasonable expectations. I wouldn't expect this to compare to a mirrorless camera or even a large bridge camera, but I don't want to carry one of those around. I have a decent mirrorless, and it just sits in the closet because it is too much effort to pack it for vacations or carry it around all day. I didn't deduct a star because of a problem with the camera, I deducted a star because I think it could easily be done better.

I'm very pleased with this point-and-shoot camera. I am a birdwatcher and I recently purchased it to take better photos of birds than my iPhone is able to take. I tried it out by taking the attached photo of a bee on a milkweed plant from about 10 feet away. I am happy with this purchase!

LOVE this camera. Bought it for a trip to Greece and I'm so glad I did. I can't recommend it enough. It takes outstanding photos and videos and is small enough to easily carry in a purse or even pocket. I went on a 6-mile hike with it on my wrist, ready for photos whenever I wanted, and barely noticed it was there. To see how amazing this camera is, check out the attached UNMANIPULATED photos. The first photo is from our balcony, looking at the Acropolis in Greece, no zoom. Photo 2 is with zoom and a closer photo of the of the Parthenon. Photo 3 is max digital zoom of Dionysus on the East pediment. Incredible quality for such a distance!! These photos are straight off the sd card, no modifications, no zooming in the computer - all RAW PHOTOS! After reviewing all of my photos from vacation, I couldn't be happier with this camera. Can't wait for my next vacation!!!

Good Camera

I see reviews that say the view screen works outdoors, I would say barely. I've had this camera for a few weeks and have a hard time taking a good picture little own a great photo. I've been taking photos for 60 years now, first camera was a Nikkormat EL, present camera is a Nikon DX 7200.I've had numerous Nikon cameras as the electronic age came, first was a Nikon D70, then a D80, and the present D7200. So I see this camera with a Leica Lens made by Panasonic. Thought here's a nice camera for a 73 year old man to use. Read it is made as a beginner to experienced to use casually, this is not likely. It fails in to many ways. First use was a night photo of a Blood Red moon. Let me say my wife took a picture with her 5 year old Samsung cell phone, these are good, I have deleted all the ones I took with the ZS99, I mean every picture I have taken I have deleted. I at one time had a Nikon FM2 and had visions of a casual use camera in this ZS99. I'm in every way disappointed in this Panasonic Lumix ZS99. There is nothing physically wrong with this camera so I have no excuse to return it. Thanks a lot Amazon and Panasonic.
