Great Pencil
I have the other Rapid PRO Pencils and Pen so I just bought this to complete the collection, not actually for everyday use. That being said, it is just as well made as the others, outer body is full metal, the grip is extremely 'grippy', a lot more so than say the 800 series or even a rubber grip. One thing I like about this is that it moves away from the whole clutch pencil design for larger lead diameters, it operates exactly like you would expect a .5mm mechanical pencil to, and holds the lead very securely. The insides of these pens/pencils are made of a plastic, the red part you see in the picture is the plastic part and you expose more of this if you unscrew it. I have always had a fear of over-tightening plastic or that it might snap in my pocket but the plastic feels very durable and I have no problem screwing these just as tight as I would a full metal body pencil. The included sharpener is a great idea and very, very helpful, but it can become cumbersome, especially trying to grip a tiny piece of metal in your fingers. So I suggest you buy a separate lead pointer if you do get one of these for everyday use. The clips are removable but if you do pull them off they are likely to scratch the chrome finish on the top, however, the finish on the pencil is very nice and very durable, as is the writing, I would expect that to rub off for years.

Love it!
This cost me £16 at the time, and while that is expensive for a clutch pencil, it really does seem more and more to be a great purchase and worth every penny. It feels incredibly well made. It's quite heavy (since it's almost entirely made from solid metal) but I like the weight. It's as if the weight it puts on the lead tip help it write, rather than you having to put pressure on the nib yourself - hope that makes sense! It seems effortless to write, unlike a light pencil. The knurled stainless grip provides excellent erm.. grip. It has a good wee sharpener in the cap, how ever I still prefer to keep my Faber Castell 2mm sharpener handy for that. It also has an eraser under the cap. Probably my favourite thing about this pencil is the way it feeds out the lead when you push the button... every other 2mm clutch I own just opens and the lead slides out in an uncontrolled manner... whereas, this dispenses the lead by exactly the correct measured amount. It really is TOP quality!

A fantastic mechanical pencil
This pencil has served me faithfully as my main writing implement for well over a year. The build quality is amazing. Having used graphgear and uni kuru toga pencils in the past the construction of this pencil is unparalleled, The addtional heft of a all metal construction means much less preassure is required to make darker marks and it feels far more precise. Unlike plastic pencils this has never slipped in my hand. While some of the black coating has faded off reavealing the brasss underneath it's still perfectly functional. The erasers can be annoying to replace if you opt to DIY them instead of buying the manufacturer ones. A brief summany then; This is a great mechanical pencil and one that'll alst you a long time - well worth the high asking price

Very nice pen
The rotrig rapid pro 0.5mm has a nice weight on it compared to the light, plastic mechanical pencils ive used thoughtout my years. A positive feeling which doesnt hinder the control and smoothness of my sketches. The pencil has a really nice textured material for the thumb and fingers which is comfortable for the hand. One of the unique features is the retractable metal nib in which to protect it when its stored in a pocket or bag. Definitely recommended for all forms of art or notetaking as rotrig is renowned for its quality products. :) -Just make sure you dont lose it

Solidly Built No Nonsense Clutch Pencil
Solidly built no nonsense clutch pencil. Unlike some reviewers I like the discreet teeny tiny sharpener. Unlike some reviewers I'm less enamoured of the "knurled grip", it's a little on the sharp side. No doubt it'll dull with time... in the meantime I can use it for filing my nails. It feels pretty indestructible, the 2mm doesn't have a prone sleeve like the 0.5 and 0.7 models, and the all metal build makes me think it might be handy in hand to hand combat...

If you like drawing, writing
Oh my gosh. It's practically fused to my hand already (metaphorically). If you like drawing, writing, holding things, stroking anodised surfaces or even just looking at good looking things, then buy one. It looks good, it smells good, it tastes good, it feels sublime and it makes marks like nothing else matters. I use it for writing notes and drawing, currently I'm running some 2B leads in this mother. The internal suspension is mega, it really does prevent the leads from constantly snapping, and also stops hard use damaging the nib. This pencil is built like a tank so any damage is unlikely. The nib is usually the first thing to go in most mechanical pencils, but the Rotring Rapid Pro counters this common flaw with its retractable nib, utter bliss. If you want a pencil, then it's either this or a pack of blackwings. Depends on what you're into. But in the world of mechanical pencils the Rotring Rapid Pro reigns supreme.

Fantastic Pencil.
I am a bit obsessed with mechanical pencils, and I absolutely love this one. Feels nice in the hand, and design is sleek and the weight is good. Only issue I have if I have to nit pick is that the eraser plug on the barrel to refill the led can be a bit tough to remove, especially if your eraser has worn down, but it really isn't a huge issue. Great pencil. I've recently bought a second one.

The Rapid Pro 0.5mm mechanical pencil is another instance of Rotring excellence. The styling, in my opinion, is beautiful in the matte black finish, finely knurled grip, and sleek aesthetic. It has an automatic "spring-loaded" cushioning mechanism for heavy-handed users who press hard on a pencil when writing. The lead sleeve is retractable and has no wobble insofar as I can discern. I like a small grip diameter, and the Rapid Pro is just suited to my taste in this regard (The grip diameter is very slightly larger than my Rotring 800.). The Rapid Pro has a brass clutch for gripping the lead unlike lesser pencils having plastic clutches. The upper body of this model (above the red ring) is hard plastic; although, it looks and feels like metal. This does not cheapen the pencil, for many other top-line pencils have hard plastic bodies also to reduce cost, weight, and finger fatigue during long periods of writing. The hexagonal shape of the upper body fails to prevent the pencil from rolling off the desk. However, the pocket clip stops the roll after one turn. There is no lead-hardness window. There is no lead-clearing pin embedded in the eraser as in the Rotring 800. This is a solidly built, premium pencil. I would gladly give it ten stars. I would buy it again.

Amazing pencil. The build quality is spectacular and having a plunge style 2mm lead is much nicer then the drop style. One word of caution, don't purchase with the Staedtler sharpener. The barrel is larger then the opening of the sharpener so I had to drill out the plastic which took a bunch of time. I hear the Uni sharpener fits. (This may also not be a problem if you don't mind using the sharpener on the back of the pencil, I just find the small cap hard to hold)
