REALLY Imptessive. REALLY easy to use
Now THIS is truly an innovative knife sharpener. It's almost unbelievable how easy it is to get a truly sharp edge on your kitchen knives. The 'holder' block has an amazingly strong grip on the blade and offers a 20- and 15-degree angle to service your everyday knives and your finer work knives. Out of the box I tried that business of using a marker on the blade edges. On the straight edges the marker was gone in about 5 minutes. It took a little longer and some bit of learning curve before I got the knife tips really sharp. When I was finished with the diamond side I couldn't believe the metal dust. The drum rolled so easily I'd really no idea so much metal was being removed. The stainless side did just an OK job of honing and polishing the edge. It worked, bit I wasn't all that impressed. But when I used my ceramic hone, the knife edge was INCREDIBLY sharp. So yeah, this is a great sharpener, but hang on to your ceramic hone.

Easy to use and works great
I like it. I don't know if I'd say it produces "razor sharp" edges, but they're plenty good enough to slice ripe tomatoes or anything else I'm cooking. I have found best results using the 15 degree edges (some Zwilling and some Victorinox... mid-level knives at best). And best to give it a couple minutes at least on each edge first time around. I'm sure other methods might produce better results, but this is easy, quick, requires no skill, and works great.

Produces razor sharp knife edges.
I've owned this HORL3 sharpener for around six months now. It will produce razor sharp knife edges that will shave. However, the results aren't as quick as some testimonials. On average, it takes 15โ20 minutes per knife when dull. I've used it on Damascus steel blades and lower quality stainless steel blades, and it will produce sharp edges. So far, the sharpening disc is showing little signs of wear. I use a drop of Mercer culinary honing oil on the disc, and it decreased the time to sharpen a blade. The block has two angles, 15 and 20 degrees. So if you own fine culinary knives, you may need to purchase a different angle between 10โ15. While the HORL3 is a good sharpener, if you do a lot of sharpening and want razor sharp blades quicker then it's worth the investment to go with the HORL2 Pro with the additional whet stones.

Perfect for me and most likely you, too. Here's why.
I am sure, that in a perfect world, where I had all the time I wanted, I would have a set of whetstones of varying grits ready to go to sharpen my knives. Perhaps my man servant would be fetching them and soaking them for me at my directive? They would make sure that my dedicated sharpening set up was ready for me so that I could meticulously move from larger grit blocks to smaller ones and using the stroking and passing techniques I had mastered over hundreds of hours, to achieve the perfect edge and knife nirvana. So in my reality, I am an enthusiastic home chef who cooks multiple times every day for my family and then occasionally notices, why the $%^^% is dicing this onion so hard today? I have a Wusthof Classic 8" Chef's, 4" Paring and large Butcher Knife. I also have a Hedley Bennett 8" Chef's. I use the 20 degree side as its the closest to their manufacturing angle specs. I was not sure that the HORL3 Cruise would work out. Would the main grit be too rough/fast? Would it take too long? Would this system $%^^%-Up my knives? I am pleased to say, that this dead easy system is a minor miracle for mere mortals who simply want to get on with their meal prep and by extension, the rest of their lives. The grit is just fine. You feel/hear it when using the rough grit disc and at first it may alarm you as being too aggressive. For my knives it takes like 12-18 rolls on each side with the rough and then 20 or so on the honing disc to finish it up and achieve a fantastic sharp edge. To my eye, the edge looks really good after. Is it perfect? Well the knives slice easily through grapes and tomatoes, and of course those freakin onions effortlessly. And my knives aren't $%^^%-Up I highly recommend this system. At least try it for yourself. Get the crappiest knife you have. Heck, borrow your friends or neighbors crappiest knives and do all of them. You'll see. One of the best purchases I've made for myself in 2025. The product quality is excellent. The magnets are strong and the manufacturing is well done. For the Butcher knife, I put the roller on a wood cutting board so the HORL would work with the larger blade. For the tiny 4" paring knife, I didn't need to do anything special in the set up. I love the product.

Good strong magnets.
Pretty good! Not suitable for small pocket knives but does fine on the kitchen knives. The magnets are good and strong! Easier to get a consistent, uniform angle with this sharpener. I avoided the Chinese knockoffs and paid the Germans for the real deal. No regrets!

The Real Deal!
I bought this for my father for Father's Day and he loves it. He likes to sharpen his knives pretty often on this rectangular stone so he has to angle the knife manually which can make a big difference on how well the knife is sharpened or not. However, he has a thing for Chinese made products. He does not like buying them if he help it. So when I saw that this was made in Germany, I jumped on it and bought it. It was pretty pricey but the reviews said this was a high quality product and I noticed that anything made in Germany usually is so I didn't hesitate. He was so happy with it and said now he can sharpen knives much faster and it does all the work for him. The angles are all preset for him so he doesn't have to manually guess the angle and hope its correct. I'm not really into sharpening knives but it seemed like there were several options on how you can go about sharpening the knife depending on what kind of knife you are sharpening. Anyway, as long as he loves it that's all that mattered to me. I highly recommend this item if you want a good quality knife sharpener. It seems like this product will hold up for a very long time because of the quality. Hope this review helps you out and thanks for reading!!!

Easy to use and sharpens well. I recommend it because the angle of the grind is obviously the hardest part of sharpening. The magnet is nice and strong and holds the knife blade well. It doesn't take much space and stores easily I bought a strop for burr removal.

I was surprised by how well this got the edges back on my knives. Easy to use and results that were great for a home kitchen. Use it on my pocket knives and they turned out excellent as well. I would recommend this before you go for something more professional.

I only gave it a 4 star not because the sharpener wasn't good. It was because there is a learning curve to operating the sharpener. Solidly built, smooth rolling function. First try, I got my knife very sharp. With practice, I will get better at getting the perfect edge. If you have hand arthritis, this unit may be difficult to keep stable. Clamping down the angle base with a C clamp might help. Very good product and the best sharpener I have purchased.
