Anbernic's best Android console to date.
The Anbernic RG 406H is the best console Anbernic has released. There are two elements to this review, one is the console itself, and the other is the “extra” items that were included or might be desirable. This is not a top-of-the-line android game console, but it is a very good one. It isn’t really pocketable, given the tall joysticks, but that minor annoyance is, in my view, offset by how good the sticks are. I also have an RG556 from Anbernic, and these are better sticks by far. I like both consoles, but this one is a better all-rounder -- though I do wish it was OLED (but that would make the price higher). It does have the same processing power as the 556 with a slightly more portable form factor. I chose the white version of this console and in my opinion it looks stunning. I don’t have many white consoles, but I think the way they designed this makes white a fantastic color choice. The bezels are not bothersome to me, and the controls all feel great -- especially the D-Pad which is almost as good as the joysticks. The shoulder buttons feel great, and the triggers provide more than enough control for my analog needs. I particularly enjoy racing games on this console. It comes with a number of pre-installed emulators, and for my use case I quickly deleted them and installed the more up-to-date emulators from my google play account and from Github. I also use my own games from the large collection of physical media I have on hand. All that said, it worked out of the box, and all the customization is not needed to enjoy great gameplay. The included launcher is fine, but I switched over to my favorite open source launchers. This console came with a screen protector that fits perfectly, and I appreciate having it from day one. It’s far easier to get a contaminant free screen protector application right when you remove the product rather than later when you have to clean accumulated dust and smudging (especially on a touch screen device). It also came with a basic USB-C to A cable for charging the device, which is great if this is your first console, or second, but not really needed when you have many USB-C to A cables around. Still, they have no way to know, and I’m glad it’s there. This particular console also came with an SD card painted in Kioxia colors which did not read “Kioxia” and, out of the box, had a LOST.DIR folder on it. Not a good sign. It did come in a plastic SD card carrier, which is always appreciated. Given the length of the joysticks I do recommend getting a case for this unit, there are several available that will fit (I ordered one to fit exactly, but I’ve been using another that’s close enough if I keep the front surface shipping foam that came with the console on it). All in all, I rate this as the best Anbernic Android retro game console they’ve made to date. I prefer it to the Cube, which is very similar (and also excellent), because of the improved joysticks and slightly stretched grips which I find more ergonomic. It’s not cheap, but I think it’s value for money.

Learn how to load your own roms and emulatora
Item was on time. It plays great. For those who are new to this hobby, you have to load in your own roms. It's not hard at all. You can even load directly onto the device by using the web browser. The luxury of an android handheld. Battery is great, screen is vibrant, and controls are sharp. Great purchase for my retro gaming hobby

Is an ok handheld up to n64 games and some ps2 games but has a lot of problems with most ps2 games on it. Price is ok for what it can offer but do not buy if playing ps2 games is your goal.

Great hardware, false product title
The device itself was great. I did have to let it charge a bit when I received it despite it having almost 80% battery (there is no quick-charge, and it wouldn't have been quick-charging anyway on the small power brick I used to let it idle). The fan at boot is also very loud and at first I thought it was broken. It's fine after it boot, and this was not something I noticed any video review mention. After it's initial boot I didn't have any problems playing games on it, it's comfortable, the screen looks great, and I think it's going to be a good upgrade for me. I've knocked some stars off because it did not come with any games, despite the clear indication it should have. I ordered the black colorway, which notes the product is "RG 406H Retro Handheld Game Console 4'' IPS Screen Android 13 System Built-in 128G Storage with 4783 Preinstalled Games RG406H Portable Gaming Console RG406H Supports 5G WiFi Bluetooth HDMI Black ". Now, none of the photos or descriptions show an external SD card other than the Purple colorway, but all of them contain 128GB internal storage that could easily accommodate the number of games listed. THIS DOES NOT COME WITH GAMES, at all. It's main saving grace is that, compared to the Retroid Pocket 5, a contemporary, it is $60 cheaper at the time I purchased it. I don't appreciate not getting what is advertised though.

Fun toy for both adults and kids
Really cool, brought it for my husband he really likes it. It comes both in Chinese and English. Since my kids is learning Chinese we are really excited for them to try it out in Chinese. we love the speed and the clarity as well as. The way the buttons feel is very nice. Everything is functioning very well. Great size.

Definitly worthy
It's definitely a good choice for me. The RG-406 runs on Android, which means it supports a wide range of apps and games from the Google Play Store and other sources. The interface is smooth and intuitive, providing a user-friendly experience. The hardware is robust, with responsive controls and a vibrant screen that makes gaming visually enjoyable. It’s portable and lightweight, which is perfect for on-the-go gaming sessions. One of the standout features of this console is the ability to control both content and usage time for every app and game. As a parent, this feature is invaluable. I can ensure that my son only accesses age-appropriate games and apps while also setting time limits to balance gaming with other activities. The parental control settings are easy to configure and offer peace of mind for families.
