Love this thing, $23
This thing works great, exactly what I needed to add CD's to my Itunes without losing any song information. like the artists name and song info. Very compact with the usb cable attached to the player. I know it's older technology stuff, but do you realize how many CD's and DVDs still out there waiting to be gobbled up. Totally plug and play

Actually works with MAC
This is the second external disc drive I've purchased for my iMac to upload CD's, and this one works! I have an external doc, and using the USB-A connection seemed to work the best. Considering this is less expensive than other models, I was shocked and delighted.

ROOFULL External CD DVD +/-RW Drive USB 3.0 & USB-C Portable CD
The setup was incredibly easy; I just plugged it in via USB 3.0, and it was ready to go. It also comes with a USB-C cable, which was great because my laptop has USB-C ports, and I didnโt have to worry about any adapters. The drive is compact and portable, so I can easily toss it in my bag when I need it. Iโve used it for both reading and writing discs, and it works perfectly. It reads DVDs and CDs quickly and plays my music and videos without any issues. I also used it to burn a few files to a CD, and the process was smooth with no interruptions. Iโve only knocked off one star because itโs a bit noisy when burning a CD or DVD, but itโs not overly disruptive. Overall, this is a reliable external drive for anyone who needs one for their laptop or desktop, especially since it works across various operating systems like Windows, Mac, and Linux. Would definitely recommend it for those needing an affordable, easy-to-use external drive.

Revised Review
REVISED/UPDATE To my surprise, the company approached me after reading my original review. I accepted the challenge and they sent me a new drive. I have used this for some time, I wasn't going to rush it, and it is holding up. I double-checked a few things. Indeed, when they say it MUST be directly plugged into the USB port, it has to be. I do not understand this. I have known a few people who use a dock for the laptop. Myself included (docking ports are cheaper than a 2-4 thousand dollar laptop). Currently, since I am using the Microsoft Pro Surface, I find most USB cords too damn short and the particular item (Blueray drive, printer cord, or exterior hard drive) dangles, putting a strain on the USB port. Other times you need more than one item hooked up, and with Surface, well, it only has one USB port. Now, I use a very high-quality Surface Pro Docking Station for Surface Pro 4/5/6 Hub Dock port with several ports by KETAKY. The ROOFULL External CD DVD Drive doesn't work when attached to this. It misses tracks you are ripping, and movie playbacks are choppy. It literally has to be plugged in directly. Total shocker? No, this was not my original issue, I had it plugged in directly. I just doubled checked after receiving this new one, as I had read the instructions with my first-time purchase. As such the first one I purchased, and tossed out, must have had a fault. Go figure. Now it works well. I must add this, yes I must! I used Lenovo DVD drives before, and never had issues plugging them into a Dock Port. Strange that this ROOFULL does have this issue. Not being an engineer I have no idea of the reasons behind this. Follow their instructions, no issues. Have issue? Contact them. I must say their customer service is on top of the product issues and want the customer to be VERY PLEASED! I added two stars, one for trusting me to follow through with this review and not charging me for the second unit. The second one is for actually going the extra mile and reading customers' reviews! Got to love them for that! ***End of the revised review*** A few issues. CON: DVD playback. Many times, 50/50, the DVD doesn't play. You hear it within the player attempting to run, but it will never run (I let it alone for a few minutes, but the noise makes you take it out for concern that it is wrecking the movie/series. It doesn't! So that could be listed as a PRO, not a con. Then you slip the tray back in again with the DVD and sometimes it will at last run. Frustrating! Ripping CDs. It never finishes the rip. Typically one or two tracks remain, and you must start all over again. I find that when it does this, I now have one or two extra CD covers in my music file with those missing tracks. Again, frustrating! PRO When it works, all is fine. I purchase this for aesthetics. My Microsoft Surface Pro is silver, and I wanted a DVD/CD player ripper to match it. Seems I should have skipped the image and gone with what actually worked (Lenovo). I wrestled with stating what I had used and continued to use for concern that those reading this might believe I was paid in some manner to do so, but I write honest reviews here and on Google. Going back in time, I always used IBM. I never had an issue. Then along came Lenovo who picked up that line. Again, never had an issue. Only recently have I noted Lenovo laptops not being as fantastic as they once were. Typically, it is the keyboard and built-in batteries (common now with most manufacturers). Making this complaint to a dear friend of mine, we have known each other since the early 1980s, and he gave me his advice. Trusting him when he informed me that Microsoft Surface was a better brand these days. I bought it and this "silver" DVD player. Well, he was correct, while I was wrong about the DVD player. My new Lenovo "Thinkpad" Ultra Slim USB DVD Burner/player works fine as my old one did.

Simple, easy, exactly as expected
If you have a Windows 10 PC and need an external CD/DVD drive, this is the one for you! The Rooful External CD/DVD drive is as simple and easy as it gets - just plug it into a USB-C (or USB 3.0) port and Windows instantly recognizes the newly-connected drive. A few additional pros: - It is very lightweight. - The cable fits nicely into a cutout on the bottom of the drive, making it very easy to store and carry. - Both data and power come from the single USB-C (or USB 3.0) cable. There is no need for a separate power cable or bulky adapter. A few additional thoughts: - Just as with any CD/DVD drive in Windows, you must have the right software to read from or write to discs. This is not a limitation of this product - it's a well-known and long-standing "feature" of Windows. The instructions sheet that arrived with my drive included recommendations to 3 separate CD/DVD software players. If you are unable to overcome this then you should contact your child or grandchild for assistance! - I would highly recommend purchasing a padded carry case for this drive if you plan to store or carry it. Just like any other electronic equipment it could be easily damaged from bouncing around in a laptop bag unless it's properly protected. I found links to several of these cases in the "Related Products" links on the Amazon product page. - The performance of this drive is much slower than internal drives. Again, this is a limitation of the design (external/USB), not a deficiency of this product. - The cover of the model I purchased is White, like really White. I couldn't tell from the product photo whether it was gray or white. My laptop is gray and I was hoping to get a match, but there didn't seem to be a gray option (only black and white). This is not a problem, just an observation. Bottom line - this product works exactly as expected and is a perfect solution, especially for this price point!

Not recommended.
I purchased to copy music CDs to my Mac. Mac OS recognizes drive, but file transfer is ridiculous. One song file took an hour to transfer, with Mac OS estimating another 8 hours to complete the small 800mb file transfer. I tried using two different Macs, a MacBook Pro and an I-Mac, both new models, with the same results. Disk drive had loud mechanical sound, like the tracking head was constantly jumping around. I attempted to contact their customer support over a two-day period but could never get anyone to answer the phone.

Great little CD/DVD drive.
Nice external CD/DVD Drive. It's working well on both my Mac and Windows computers. It was plug and play on both computers. No additional drivers were needed.

Worked as expected.
Worked as expected. I wanted to transfer some old photos scanned to a CD onto my MacBook Air and it did the job. I had to use a USB to USC connector to get my laptop to recognize it.

Good value
I bought this after scrapping an perfectly good Apple Superdrive because they stopped supporting it. AlI I wanted was to have something to transfer music from CD to my Macbook and my phone. It does not burn discs but that is not something I need. I liked it has a USB and USB-C connection so it does not need a hub. I took it out of the packaging, gave a quick read of the instructions, plugged it in, waited a bit and it worked great to transfer some CDs. For Windows users it sounds like you will see an icon on your desktop. OS users will see nothing, not even an icon when it is connected. However on closing the disc tray it connected directly to the music app. At this price point it is hard to beat as I use it,
