Review: Best coffee maker, hands down. - This simple little device is the best coffee maker that money can buy. It's portable, easy to use, and, most importantly, easy to clean! You always get a fresh tasting cup. Using it couldn't be simpler. Put in a coffee filter, grind some fresh coffee (optional,) boil water, wait a few seconds for it to cool, and pour the water over. I like to wet the grinds first, wait a few seconds, then just fill the cone up to the top. It just about fills a 12 ounce mug, and you can top it off with a bit more water once its drained. Depending on how you boil the water, you have excellent coffee in 5 minutes. My favorite part is the simplicity of cleaning. A quick wipe down and rinse is all that's needed. No descaling, vinegar cycles, crevasses to get gunk out of, mesh filters to tangle with (why I prefer this brewer over a press pot) or even a carafe to clean (since you put this directly on top of your mug.) A dirty coffee machine can ruin perfectly good coffee; this brewer removes the headache of cleaning from the equation almost completely. On top of all that, it's cheap as dirt. You can get 10 of these for the price of the cheapest single serve Keurig machine. Coffee filters are literally a dime a dozen, and you can brew whatever coffee you want with this, from the cheapest Maxwell House to the loftiest Kona sourced from organic Hawaiian roasters. Did I mention it's made in the USA from durable BPA free plastic, and its simplicity means that it's relatively environmentally friendly, since you won't be throwing it in a landfill in a few years when it breaks? Did I mention that the only way for this brewer to malfunction or break is for you to accidentally run it over with your car? In closing, buy this! It's only five bucks, and it's awesome.
Review: Cheapest method to make a single cup of coffee - I'm somewhat of a coffee aficionado and I was happily surprised how simple and good the coffee comes out from using this system. In a matter of minutes one can make a perfect cup of coffee using this system. Since you control everything from the type of coffee to how fast you poor the water it's really easy to customize your coffee to be just right. However, there are some drawbacks with this system. First, by allowing you to use any coffee and nearly any ground size it can be a bit daunting to find the perfect cup. Personally, I've found that fine ground like you would buy pre-ground for a coffee maker works just fine. Secondly, you need to remember that it takes more than a cup of hot water to get 1 cup since the coffee absorbs a bit. I use the method I saw in a coffee place by me and pre wet the filter and then poor a bit of hot water into the grounds to soak them prior to pouring a cup. Lastly, the hardest part, which I'm still working on, is the pouring. For the perfect cup of coffee to be consistently good one must poor in a circular motion, best with a long nose kettle (don't have). However, you don't mind your coffee varying slightly cup by cup you can just pour the hot water into another cup, what I do, which allows the water to cool a bit so it doesn't burn the grounds (makes it taste bitter) and allows for better control. Overall, this is bar far the cheapest method to make a single cup of coffee and I would recommend it for anyone from beginner to advanced user. It's one of those things that gets even better as you get more practice using it. Pros: - Cheapest method to make a single cup of coffee - Super easy to clean - Very customizable to get the perfect cup of coffee - Tons of how to's online to tell you how to make the perfect cup of coffee - Uses cheap #2 coffee maker filters Cons: - Can be daunting to use at first due to all the choices one has - Difficult to get a consistent cup of coffee, though I've found even my worst tasted great (that's where the practice come in) - To help with getting a consistent cup of coffee one can end up spending money on other equipment like a grinder and long neck kettle

## Questions & Answers

**Q: My coffee keeps coming out weak. I'm not over boiling the water and pouring very slowly. What else can I be doing wrong?**
A: The water has to be 200 deg. F. You have to wet all the grinds first and wait 30 sec. Then slowly pour from the center out in a spiral until a bulge is formed. Never pour past the grinds. Wait for the bulge to go down then slowly pour from the center out in a spiral again. Repeat until you have the amount of coffee you desire. Also you need to have the correct amount of grinds for the amount of cups you desire. It is recommended that before adding the grinds and beginning to completely wet the filter and then dumping the water to avoid any adverse taste from the filter material. It is also recommended to use a goose neck kettle for slow pour control.

**Q: Is the plastic safe?**
A: I contacted Melitta regarding what plastic they use for this product. The answer is Polypropylene (PP), identification code "5" It can take boiling water and up to 340 °F (171 °C).

**Q: What size filters does it use and are they easy to find?**
A: You can use any #2 or #4 cone filters, that you can get at the local grocery store. I bought #4 brew-rite from my local WalMart. The reason I bought #4 size is because it fits above the cone and allows you to put more coffee and water without worrying if it is going to run over. I did find that you also need to use boiling hot water if you want your coffee to come out with the right flavor/concistancy.

**Q: How many water filter holes does this have?**
A: Don't believe what Great Cook wrote. I read an article on Harvard Health Publishing site, part of Harvard Medical School, that discusses a study published online April 22, 2020 by the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology that found filtering coffee by any means, paper or mesh — not just boiling ground coffee beans and drinking the water — was better for health, particularly for older people. Don't believe some random poster on Amazon that might wear tin foil hats and believe in a flat earth, do some research like a conscientious adult.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Makes a great, smooth cup of coffee with a kick
*by E***T on June 4, 2022*

This review is for the Melitta single cup pour-over brewer in black (a/k/a "Melitta gadget"). I bought it a few months ago, but delayed using it because I didn't know where to start. Made my first two cups today, and it's actually easy and makes a great cup of coffee. Melitta has a handy FAQ section on their website (sorry, Amazon regulations don't permit me to post a link). Here's the short version: Figure out how much water you need. My mug holds about 12 oz. Filtered tap water is fine; cold water is better than hot. Heat the water to just below boiling (about 200 F). I used a Pyrex cup in the microwave but you can use an electric kettle, range top, whatever you have. Figure out how much ground coffee you need. This will probably take some trial and error. This info was in the Melitta FAQ and also on my bag of coffee. Most measurements are based on a 6-oz cup of coffee, so I doubled it. Rinse the paper filter and set it in the Melitta gadget (mine came with a sample pack of five #2 cone filters). Set the gadget on top of your coffee mug. Put the measured ground coffee in the filter. Pour the hot water over the grounds. Take your time and drizzle it around, in order to get the most flavor and keep it from overflowing. The coffee will drain into the cup below; takes about 3-5 minutes total. Cleanup is quick and easy - just throw out the filter and grounds, or compost them. Give the Melitta gadget a quick rinse/hand wash and you're good to go. With just a little effort I got a cup of coffee that was rich and flavorful, with plenty of kick, no loose grounds, and no bitter taste. Definitely would buy again.
