The seven-year-old is brain damaged but very smart. He came to me last Thanksgiving at a kindergarten level, convinced he was stupid and having been teased badly in a classroom situation. I picked up this book because it says 'first grade' on it but it is really more like kindergarten. Still, he saw it as first grade and did great. I was so appreciative of something that went so slowly and he could excel at. Now he knows he is not stupid and we have moved up to normal first grade material, which he is happy to tackle.
