This is a really great product. It holds a charge for a long time. It is easy to store and is small enough to fit in my purse. It is really lightweight and very easy to use.

I had regular kindles more than 10 years ago but got the fire and didn't bother with them. I didn't want to read on my phone. I wanted this but somehow got the Kindle White. I found it heavy with the case so for the first time, I sent it back. I got this. I'm so happy with it. It's very light (lighter than my phone in the case) and you can hold with one hand. Also, the reason I got the white was so I could read at night. It turns out you can read at night with this easily. It has light so you can adjust the brightness. The screen size is adequate and I've read a lot more since getting it. The battery life is decent. I'll add that I had the a Kindle Fire from January 2015 that was still working and charging and I traded that in. I hope this is a good quality also.

I bought this for my husband after how much he like my Kindle Paperwhite and I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked the Basic just as much if not more in some ways. Being slight smaller than the Paperwhite makes it feel noticably lighter and that makes it much easier to hold. The text is crisp and clear and the adjustable sizing makes it easy to read whether you're holding it or propping it up. The adjustable lighting makes it very gentle on the eyes for nighttime reading. It's a pretty sturdy little device and it does everything you could possibly want a portable library to do.

A Simple Kindle That Gets the Most Important Things Right I've always enjoyed reading, but physical books can be bulky, take up space, and aren't always convenient to carry around. Reading outdoors is excellent, and the adjustable front light makes nighttime reading just as comfortable. Page turns are quick, navigation is straightforward, and the battery life is outstanding. Unlike a tablet, there are no social media notifications, emails, or other distractions competing for attention. It allows me to focus entirely on the book in front of me. The 16 GB of storage is more than enough for thousands of books, and having an entire library available in a device that weighs just a few ounces is incredibly convenient. I also appreciate the USB-C charging and the ability to customize font size, brightness, and layout. Those small adjustments make long reading sessions much more enjoyable. A couple things to keep in mind: this basic Kindle doesn't include some of the premium features found on higher-end models, such as waterproofing or an adjustable warm light. Also, if you choose the ad-supported version, you'll see sponsored screens on the lock screen, though they don't interfere with reading. Bottom Line: This Kindle delivers exactly what most readers need—a lightweight, distraction-free reading device with an excellent screen, long battery life, and enough storage for an entire personal library. As an avid Kindle reader and someone who had the original white DX and then the 2, God, I miss those Keyboards. I bought this for my mom, who wanted to read books over the summer in Greece. I bought this on Prime Day for 89 dollars. It is so cute. It is smaller than my Kindle. My mom likes it because it is lightweight. I can adjust the font on it, because she has difficulty seeing print in books, which is small. She is now taking it everywhere with her. I taught her how to use it, which was very simple for her. She wanted me to download the classic books for her. When I went to look for them, I had to pay for them. Luckily, I downloaded them all 18 years ago for free and found them in my Kindle History of books. I did not even know they were still there because it has been forever . I like how the purchase came with 3 months of Kindle Unlimited. But I already paid for but it put a freeze on mine and will start taking the payments again in October. Overall, I am happy that she is happy.

What *should* an e-reader be? In my opinion, very different from a phone or tablet. Using an e-reader should evoke cozy feelings. No distractions, no “hostile” materials that make phones and tablets arguably feel more “premium”, nothing to get between you and your books. This is the fourth Kindle device I’ve owned. Prior to this, I was a not-so-proud owner of a 2nd generation Kindle Oasis from 2017. I was really impressed by the 1st gen model. It was a perfect e-reader. Impossibly thin and light, detachable from the included case that came with extra battery. I avoided buying it, then blindly jumped on its successor. Unfortunately, it was terribly designed and got me reading less over the years. It may have *felt* premium to the designers, but it felt like the opposite of a book. It used IMO hostile materials like cold metal on the back, with sharp edges that left indentations in my fingers after reading for a while. I liked the hardware buttons, but they weren’t enough. Most importantly, the Oasis gen 2 was a tad too heavy to hold up when reading in bed, at almost 200 grams. And it was intentionally shaped to be held one-handed. Although it was designed with the asymmetrical weight balance to make it feel lighter, it still felt too cumbersome to me. Anyway, enough reviewing my last Kindle. For a while, on and off, I looked for a worthy successor, but the Paperwhite models of subsequent years were just as heavy or even heavier. I decided that there wasn’t a Kindle model that was really made for me. Then I got THIS one, and it changed everything. I’ve had it for a few weeks now. I had never truly considered the base model as an option because they didn’t have the front-lit screens years ago. THE GOOD - Truly lightweight at 158 grams. Thank you for designing an e-reader that’s not a chore to pick up and read for long periods of time, even one-handed. - Great materials. Light plastic, doesn’t get too cold to the touch. The matte finish almost makes the front *and* back feel like paper. - Power button is nice and clicky, easy to press, and I’ve never pressed it accidentally. - Comes in a not-boring color (matcha). I’m not *really* into the color, but I’m definitely not into the ubiquitous black electronics aesthetic. I wish there was a white version, but the matcha is fun. - Very performant. Just browsing around the OS is leaps and bounds ahead of the 2017 model. Page flips are so quick, a couple of times I’ve missed the flip transition while simply moving my eyes from the bottom right corner to the top left. As long as future updates don’t make it slower, this will never get old. - Kindle branding is subtle and classy. In some lighting conditions, you can barely see it head-on. - USB-C is a great upgrade from the 2017 model. - Lower price is a bonus. I didn’t buy it for the low price. I got it for the weight. So it’s a win-win. THE NOT SO GOOD - No warm lighting. I get why this is. They want to keep some features exclusive to the higher-end models. But I don’t consider this a low-end model. It’s the compact, lightweight Kindle. I wish there was a small Kindle with premium features. This base model was so close, but not quite there. Even today, while I love this thing, there isn’t a Kindle truly made for me. - BEWARE: The back plastic is very easy to scratch. If you don’t put it in a sleeve or case, the lightest hits and knocks against other hard material will immediately scratch it. Scratches are hard to see in the matcha color, but they’re there if the light catches them right. It’s annoying, but I still like the matte feel. - No hardware buttons. Not a dealbreaker for me, but hardware buttons have a side benefit that I really miss from the Oasis - the ability to turn the touchscreen off while reading. I like putting my hands all over the screen for easier holding. The Oasis would allow this, and to re-enable, you’d have to put it to sleep and re-awaken. Obviously, you can’t do that on this model. Can only hold it by the bezels, OR by sliding your finger up or down and holding it there (vs left or right for page flip). - No way to flip landscape mode upside down. There’s no tilt detection in this model, so you’re stuck with defaults. Want to hold this Kindle in landscape with the thicker bezel in your right hand? Nope, no way to achieve that. It’s on the left side. I hope they improve this with an update one day. I love this *only* for the weight and size. This is how all e-readers should feel. I wish there was a premium small and light Kindle with all the bells and whistles, and that would be the truly ideal one for me.

I read a lot, and I had been considering getting an e-reader as I wanted to reduce eye strain. After much consideration I decided to go for a classic, with the basic kindle, and well... It's a classic for a reason! I found it easy to navigate, easy to set up with my phone, and just a pleasant reading experience all around. I have a very high prescription and for once I could read for hours without my vision getting tired. The battery life is also AMAZING! No need to be chained to an outlet to charge my device while reading anymore. 100% recommend! P.S. In the more shallow side of things: This marcha color is truly soooo cute! Love it. I am usually a black or classic silver type of girl but I couldn't resist it and I don't regret it!
