Review: My preferred washing up liquid - This is a detergent to wash dishes, it is not intended as a handwash, but as it is kind to hands and is unscented, it does work well in that role but as always with any detergent, do rinse your hands well. I have been using this dish washing detergent for some years. Most of the dish washing liquids on shop shelves have heavy scents and I really don't want my cups and dishes smelling of lavender or mango or the flavour of the month. I tried a well known and readily available ecologically friendly product and it did some damage to my hands. Bio D came to my rescue. No scent and it cleans the dishes with no smears (not the way I wash anyway!) and my hands love it. I just had to travel some way to buy it. desertcart to the rescue. Note that this is a low foam product. It may be pleasing to our childish memories of bubbles to see lots of foam, but this product will clean the grease off without a sink full of rather permanent bubbles. If you can see a handful of small bubbles on the surface of the water it's probably about right. Go for the 5 litre pack and use it to refill your old bottles (or recycle washing up bottles from the neighbours...). Update- some reviewers have commented on the aroma. Unlike some commercial detergents this has no detectable aroma (to me) in normal use - there are no added fragrances. So I opened a new bottle and put my nose over it. I can just detect the base coconut oil and a hint of the citric acid. All detergents and soaps are created with one oil or another and the oily smell may not please everyone. Perhaps this is why so many soaps and detergents have strong smells added. Unfortunately added aroma oils can cause allergy problems. If you do find coconut oil offensive, try adding just a drop or two of food grade oil flavouring (food grade mint oil? food grade lavender oil?). Another oil used in eco detergents is palm oil, but there are some doubts about sustainability as tropical jungle is being cut down for palm oil monoculture.
Review: Comparison with Fairy - I have used Fairy (several fragrances) and they are all top notch at there job of cleaning the dishes and pans. However I have over the years suffered from dry hands, in brief contact dermatitis (so ID from the GP and skin specialists) and therefore been advised to use gloves to avoid contact with the dish water. I have now started to use BIO D and have instantly noticed a difference in the harshness on my hands. In summary I am happy to use BIO D as the only dish washing product. When you get BIO D it comes in a large 5 litre container, I as with Fairy transferred it to an old hand soap pump dispenser, with limits the amount to a desired amount you can control and it also prolongs the length of the product. I used to use 3 squirts of Fairy but I must admit I use 4-5 of BIO D, but at the cost of damage to my skin this is nothing. In summary I and more than happy with BIO D and would not expect it to last as long as Fairy but the cost is trivial. GREAT PRODUCT.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this product safe for septic tanks? Thanks x**
A: Hi, We have a septic tank and have used this for years.

**Q: Is this product safe for septic tanks? Thanks x**
A: It says it is on their website
"Can Bio-D products be used with a septic tanks or sewerage treatment plants?
Yes, all Bio-D products can be used with these waste processing systems."

**Q: Are any of your ingredients derived from palm oil?**
A: I emailed the manufacturer and they have advised of the below. It also seems that the ingredients have also been updated in here as well, this product does not contain any palm oil:

"I can confirm that this product does not contain vegetable glycerin. All of the ingredients for our products are listed correctly on our website."

**Q: Please tell me why when I google the first ingredient of this washing up liquid (anionic surfactant) does it say toxic ?I've 5 litres of toxic liquid?**
A: I'm sorry, but I have to call this out as being bull**it. May I first say, you googled the ingredients AFTER you bought it, that's where you first lost credibility. Anionic is a negatively charged ion, the term describes the state of an atom. Surfactants are compounds that lower the surface tension of water. In this case, they are derived from Coconut oil Where you got 'toxic' from is anyones guess, I truly believe it was not google.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good value and works well
*by H***H on 6 January 2015*

I bought this as a replacement for Fairy Liquid and other competitors and it does the job nicely. I find it convenient to purchase this in five litres format - it's easy enough to use a funnel to pour into an existing washing up liquid bottle (just be careful holding it or you might spill one or the other), and it lasts for ages, making it very good value for money. The odour is absolutely fine - I don't notice it at all, which is how I like it. I don't particularly want a plate smelling of apple soap residue, for example. It does feel gentler on my hands than other products (though mostly I use washing up gloves so I don't get left over food grime on me) and I like the fact it's (said to be) a natural, 'safe' soap. It doesn't foam as much as mass-market liquids but it cleans just as well. Would certainly purchase again.
