This is a really great lock for facilities requiring detailed access control and logging. Installation is simple, the app works well and is easy to navigate, and it's easy to share control of the lock. My biggest complaint is that the screen is BLACK until you touch it. Even in a well lit environment, it is almost impossible to see the buttons. There is only one button you may touch that does not count as part of your log in attempt, and if you don't know that, or if you touch the wrong button and don't know how to clear it, you will be locked out for a few minutes. This lock could use a proximity sensor, so that it lights up when someone approaches it. **UPDATE: it seems that, at least on the unit we received, the battery carrier is not a very tight fit, and can move out of contact with the electronics. This leaves the unit completely dead, until someone with a key can unlock it and wedge a shim in behind the carrier

Very nice and well built lock. Read the instructions carefully as this lock is compatible with almost many sizes/variations of the holes. After 1 month the baterry level is 92% so it looks good . It is at 92% even if outside were -20 to -30 degress celsius for more than 3 weeks. App is very easy to use and you can manage codes easily. The only draw back is that does not have open/closed door sensor so it closes even if the door is open but not a big deal for me.

Updated 3/20/26 - I am finding that the lack of accurate timing of notification is a priblem for me. The time i receive notified vs when the lock was accessed are not in sync. I also cant configure a way for invalid entries to trigger a notification. Dropping down to 3 stars from 4 as a result. Research on the matter tells me that I need a lock that supports zwave and a local hub to solve notification issues. Shop wisely. Updated 11/27/25 - I purchased this lock for a second home that I let other family members use when I am not. The house is some distance from my primary residence, so I outsource some of the work needed like house cleaning and general house maintenance. I create a code for each of these situations and time bomb the code so after the work is done, the code no longer works. While I get notifications when the lock is opened and closed, they don't arrive within any specific timeframe, so you have no idea of when the lock was actually unlocked or locked. You must combine with a home camera system. I do like that you don't need a subscription to manage the lock remotely via your mobile device. Heads up... the quick guide installation manual that comes with the lock is not very useful, almost misleading. You have to use the QC code in the manual to access the user guide online to actually program the lock, the directions in the quick start guide are not at all accurate.

Product: Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt Update 8/27/25 Lock continues to function perfectly. Batteries last about 9 months for my usage. No issues with app or Wi-Fi. Original review: I read reviews on many of the Wi-Fi locks before deciding on this unit. I am very glad that I chose this one. Modified 12/2/2023 to add battery life note Pros: • Materials: All components required for installation and use, including batteries, provided with unit. • Instructions: ok but on-line instructions very good. • Installation: Took about 20 minutes to install and set up. I had to spend a little extra time drilling out the bolt passageway - 1" bolt mechanism on this unit, 7/8" on my door before drilling to 1". • Alexa integration: Simple! Locks and unlocks with code. Voice activations locks no prompt, unlocks after asking for code. • Schlage app: Works fine. Lock/Unlock, set up users, get history of lock activity. Multiple locks may be set up in app. • Battery life: I used the lock about 50-60 times testing it and showing it off. Battery life is at 99%. Batteries are (4) AA. I noticed when installing the lock that it was easy to bind the bolt mechanism with too much torque on the screws. I backed of a bit, added a couple of drops of oil, and the bolt mechanism slides freely. I wonder if those reporting low battery life may have some issue with the bolt moving freely. • Added 12/2/2023: The lock shows 94% battery life in the app. I installed it three weeks ago. If linear battery usage at current rate, the batteries would last about 1 year for this installation. The electric lock motor is used about 6 times a day. • WiFi Connectivity: No issues. Took about 45 seconds to connect. I have a modern 802.11ax Asus router. Cons: • None at this time! I will modify this post if issues arise. • 12/2: Three weeks in - no issues. Works perfectly. I'll be adding another for a side door.
